Title: Dolly Hooyman: February 1997-March 2007
Post by: Sandishooligans on March 24, 2007, 02:46:52 PM
Dearest friends,

We sadly tell you that we had to let our dear Dolly go today.  The decline in her health was borne out, as the x-rays taken today showed a mass in her liver and other things happening in her gut.  She was our brave sweet girl to the end, and went to sleep without one little whimper.

The decision was very hard.  They could have done test after test to determine what the mass in her was but it would have only lead to a diagnosis.  Not a cure.   Dolly really was ready to go, we feel.  She was not eating and yet was bloated like a balloon.  She didn't even raise her head to us today when we readied her for her final ride to the vet.

This is a hard loss for us.  I know that many of you knew our Dolly.  She was one sweet li'l Grub who was, indeed, loved by us and many of you here, too.

Sweet Dolly, rest in peace.

Sandi and Mark

Our hearts go out to your family - we always enjoyed the stories about Dolly and felt she was one of our Wiener Writings extended family. While we know that no words can help, know also that we so wish that they could.

Oh Sandy. I couldn't believe this when I read your news. I had a terrible feeling about Dolly's symptoms, they were very close to what happened with my Dad's Jody. But I didn't expect this awful news today. I am so sorry...and am so glad I was one of the privileged ones from this board who had the honor to meet beautiful Dolly the Grub. Many prayers for you and Mark and Maddie. Really wish there were more we could do to help you through this hard time.

I am so sorry for what you are feeling and going through today. Having gone through the same thing twice before, I know the pain and helplessness you felt, and the loss you are feeling now. I also know, that Dolly, without being her usual "grubby" self, wouldn't be Dolly at all. You are right, she let you know it was time and you took her cue and did what she asked. That was greatest final gift you could give to her. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through the next few days and weeks.  Please give many belly rubs to Maddie. I know she must be lost right now without her sister.

Sandi, Mark and Madderoo - Our hearts here at The Herd go out to you and yours.  Guinness lost his best friend Cooper, (the border collie/lab Wiener Wannabe) just last September, and having Merlin, Beau and Roscoe join The Herd has been a great comfort to me and to him.

Remember, heaven is where all the dogs who ever loved you will be waiting at the gate!

Sandi and Mark,
I am so sorry...so so sorry...I can't hardly type - I am crying so hard.....it is such a shock when they go so quickly.  I know you both are devestated.  You did the right thing for your baby girl - the final loving act as parents - to let her go to a place where she is   running around and getting into everything.

Dolly was a special girl to all of us - she will be greatly missed - my heart goes out to you - the next days, weeks, months will be hard - but we are here for you - when you need us.

Hugs to you Sandi - the big bed will be very lonely tonight.....I just can't believe she is gone.

Love,
Barb

Sandi, Mark and Maddie,

So sorry to hear this. Like everyone else, it took me by surprise. I applaud you for having the courage to send her to the Bridge with dignity and not keeping her because it made YOU feel better. May we all have that courage when the time comes.

Thoughts and prayers coming from Texas. I'm so sorry.

Sandi and Mark,

We are so sorry to hear about Dolly's passing.   Having heard about all the stories of Dolly the Grub it was if we knew her, even though we never met her.    You absolutely made the right decision to send Dolly on to the Bridge.   We faced very similar circumstances with Rudy in his final days.   Sending rays and prayers your family's way.

I think it is amazing how they let us know when it is time its like they know we can do something for them they always know Mom & Dad can take care of them no matter what. I for one am glad we have that option for them I spent many years in hospitals watching humans go though terrible pain, laying their being vegetables and allot more in away we treat our Fur Kids better than humans but I also saw greed in family's& fighting among family's too so understand why they have the laws they do.
Know you will be very sad they leave a great hole in our hearts when they leave us it has to be true they meet us at Rainbow Bridge in the future.

I couldn't believe it when I read the news about Dolly.  What a sweet girl she was, and you guys were great parents to her.  You did the right thing in helping her to go.  Its never easy, and its always so sad when you have to say goodbye, but its your final gift to Dolly.  Lots of folks here know what you are going thru right now and you know that we understand and are here to help in anyway that we can.  Rest in peace Dolly.

Condolences from our family to yours.  With a 16 year old fur child of our own we understand what you are going through.

I'm sure she's basking in the warm sunshine at the bridge with Max, Bambam, Ladybug...and all the other loved ones.

OH no!  I've been away for a while and didn't know anything was wrong!  It sounds like it all happened relatively quickly so she didn't suffer and knew she was loved until she passed.  My thoughts are with you and yours.
