I quit feeding Ozzy "regular" dog food immediately upon hearing about the recall. He has eaten only hamburger and green beans since then (Sunday). His vet said to watch him and bring him in only if he shows symptoms.
He shows no symptoms, but I've bitten my nails down, have had "tummy troubles," and have been worried sick. I'm exhausted from worrying about this. :sad11:
Mindy,
The recall is only the wet foods and if you didn't feed the formulas that were with gravy of the wet you should be OK. Which one did you feed?
Merion
I was feeding him Nutro Natural Choice pouches - Midwest Beef Stew, Chicken, Lamb, and Turkey pouches, along with dry Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice formula. All but the dry were also gravy-based.
I found this one article so far. It says 12-72 hours after last ingested since that is how long it takes for most reactions to a toxin. Here is the link. http://www.wicu12.com/news/index.vnss?newsid=3060
I'll keep looking
This is the third time I've edited this trying to get the website my friend told me about right. www.petconnection.com is staying up to date and is keeping a database of sick animals. She said the info is pretty good there, the best she has seen.
Thanks so much for the information. I found the petconnection.com site very useful. Since it has been nearly a week and Ozzy has no symptoms, I think I'm going to relax and be grateful we dodged a bullet. I'm going to continue to feed Ozzy meat mixed with his dry stuff, and when the dry stuff is gone. I'm going to switch over to a dog food that contains NO fillers; only meat.
I'm looking at Drs. Foster and Smith food. Any opinions? If I go with an all-meat food, should I be using vitamin supplements?
Thanks for everyone's help and for putting up with my hysterics.
Here is a link that might be of some use when researching those dog foods. It's kinda hard to trust anything these days so just make sure you read those ingredients! We feed, Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice Formula. Wheat free. I find it to be a great dog food with excellent results. I'm pretty sure Ozzy will be ok. If he hasn't shown any signs before up until now then it is evident he is pretty healthy! :thumb: Keep us posted!

Below is another article that tells you a little bit more about what is in some dog food.
