Thanks for asking! We started Stormy on Piroxicam this weekend.  It had to be compounded at a lab in Colorado, so it took a while to get it. The oncologist recommended this with kind of a "It's better than doing nothing." attitude, but I have found an abstract  where a study was done using this drug for dogs with oral squamous cell carcinoma, which is what Stormy has.  This was a small sample, but one dog had a complete remission and in others tumor growth was inhibited - of course there were some where there was no effect. There has been some anti-tumor effects noted in humans taking this drug as well. So we are hoping for the best.

Right now Stormy has no symptoms at all - he is very alert and vigorous and shows no difficulty in eating.  As I said before, he's in remarkable shape for 14 year old (tomorrow is his 14th birthday). It's hard to look at him, apparently perfectly healthy, and know that he has this hanging over him. We are giving him lots of attention and love.  Although his favorite spot to sit is on his couch (yes, our dogs have their own couch, unless we have visitors that is) he has been spending a lot more time sitting on my lap, by his own choice. It's as if he knows something has changed.

Thanks again, everyone, for all the thoughts, rays, and prayers - it really makes a difference - I'm sure anyone else who has had an ailing furkid will attest that the folks on this board are the best!

I am glad he acts like he feels ok.   I hope that you will be the success story for the mediceine and the tumor goes away.

I am laughing here that the dogs have their own couch,   its a great idea though, as ours hogs half of our to herself and there is no room for us. lol

Cookie and i are still going to send lots more healing vibes...

Thanks for the update on Stormy, I'm happy to hear that he is feeling okay for now, and I hope some of the stuff you're trying out on him works.  14 years is a good age for one of these little guys, but its never enough for us.
Happy 14th. Birthday Stormy!!!   :apls:
