i wanted to start a new post what is your dogs fears and phobia? coz i have heard dachshund's have the funniest fears. what have you done to help them over come their fears
bruno is afraid of umbrellas curtians and straws. well i am still trying to desensitise bruno from the umbrella i don't know how i am going to get bruno round the curtians but the straws if what i am drinking something quite healthy i will let him suck the end of the straw i think with a dachs it's all about food treat them once treat them for life
Only one that know of is baths :grin:haha seriously new routes for walks, and Amy with strangers (collleen says it the shorthair in her).
We got both of our current ones as adults and we think Oliver had been mistreated and is always a bit jumpy.

Cookie is afraid of water. Baths, the ocean, rain, wet grass after the sprinklers have gone off.... Princess doesn't like to get wet.
She is also afraid of newspapers and magazines touching her, which makes me believe her previous family swatted her with a newspaper or something. One time she farted and it was stinky, so my DH grabbed the newspaper and started fanning it close to her and she went crazy and lost it. I also dropped a magaize on her (not hard at all) and she freaked out on me too. It's really sad to see her freak out like that. :sad7: And its really hard to calm her back down.
Oh, another fear of hers is getting picked up and losing her spot. Once she is comfy she fights to keep her spot, even if that means 1/2 the sofa for her and my DH and I crammed on the other half. I think we know who's in charge here. not us. ha ha
Willy gets nervous when I take the leashes and harnesses out. I figure he's thinking "I don't know what is going to happen next, so I will go hide in my kennel." I don't understand this behavior because he loves going outside for walks. Alex doesn't seem to have any phobias.
Ozzy has extreme separation anxiety. Before we knew what was happening, he managed to nearly chew a hole in the molding around the door leading from the laundry room to the garage. We figure he was trying to get out the same door we used to leave for work in the morning. We now crate him (in a very roomy crate), and he seems very happy now. He needs no coaxing to go into the crate.
He also does not like to have his feet messed with. We have to take him in to have his toes done.
Any thing new or out of place Patches barks at a couple of times she told off off on Buddy, a paper bag was in a chair she barked & barked till one of us moved it then she was happy???

Zeke is afraid of farts. If you fart, or even if you make a farting noise, he runs to the hills. You'd think after living with us for almost six months, he'd get used to the flatulence that this household puts out, but it still scares him.
I bet my Missy's phobia is different from everyone's. missy hates to go in the car! Never had a Dachsie not like to go in the car. When she thinks she is going in the car she goes unde the table and shakes. if we have to take her she sits in the back on her blanket and looks at the backseat and shakes.
 i had to laugh at the fart one. bruno is also afraid of the car he loves looking out the window but no one in my family actually drive so the only time he is ever in the car is when we are going to the vets so i don't think its the car its the thought of getting into the car and going to the vet. the other night my sister and i actually found out bruno is afraid of you know when you pop you mouth with your finger he will run a mile to get away from it. our dachs are such weird wonderful little creatures aren't they.
My two are afraid of wrapping paper on paper rolls....lol.....at Christmas I was wrapping presents and stood a roll of paper up and it fell in front of them making a thump noise...they are both scared of wrapping paper now....crazy, isn't it.....
They also don't like the sweeper and run and hide or give me "da look" when I get it out of the closet. As far as riding in the car...they LOVE IT.
I'm in the middle of reading a book by Patricia B. McConnell For the Love of a Dog. It has a chapter on fear in dogs and how they can make mountains of fear/agression out of molehills.
It's a good read. :icon_study: :icon_study: :icon_study: :icon_study:.
(at least if Beau decides to eat this one, I'll get a book worth having!)
