That's so exciting!  I think fostering would be hard, as I would get so attached!
I think its wonderful that you are opening your home to give him another chance at finding a forever home.

its an amazing thing that you are doing for this little dachshund. i remember when we got out resuce dog last june he was such a sad  little dog how was terriably skinny his name was paddy an dnow he is a wonderful dog full of life and is a cheeky little monkey. we had to be so patient with him if you need any help of adivice this is a wonderful website . and so many people like myself have been through the resucing of dash's and its something everyone needs to try. because even though they have been through a horriable start to life they still have the most wonderful personalty's i really hope everything works out and you have a wonderful time together roisin xxx

:comfort: Poor Winston.  I bet losing 13 teeth kinda hurt... :comfort:    But he should feel much better now and be able to eat and gain some weight once his tummy issues are resolved.

Are those his bones showing through?  Poor little guy.  Miss pampered eLlIe only gets a 1/2+  cup of food a day and she is still a little "fluffy".  How could anybody let this little guy get down to skin and bones.  Grrrrrrr.
Hugs (http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/ad/arms.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org) to Winston. AND to you (http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/ad/arms.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Yes those are bones showing thru. Fortunately, Winston is eating and will eat more in due time once his little tummy gets larger with more food. I feel the same way about someone not feeding him. HOwever, he couldnt eat with the pain and infection in his mouth. His teeth were the worst i or the vet has ever seen.

Winston will feel so much better now that those bad teeth are out of him.....it makes me sick that people would let these furbabies get into such shape......thanks so much for taking him in - I know he will blossom with your care and will be doxie plump in no time !!!!  Will he eat kibble or are you giving him soft food?  Keep us posted - he has such a sweet face !

I'm so happy Winston is getting good care and loving from you!  I adopted my little Punkin last May through DRNA.  When she went to her foster home, she only weighed six pounds. Probably a lot of it due to her mouth and teeth being in such bad condition. Her foster mom and the vet she worked for had never seen such bad teeth, just like your Winston.

She had a dental and lost quite a few teeth. Then when I adopted her, I took her to the vet school at the university here in Madison and they performed surgery to close the holes that were left from her previous dental work. They also had to pull a couple more teeth during surgery. She had to have another dental about a month ago and lost yet another tooth during that procedure.

I'm happy to report that Punkin is doing just great. She weighs nine pounds. When she was recovering from her dental work, I ground up dry food in the food processor and mixed it with water but otherwise I feed her dry dog food (Natural Balance).  I can't let her chew on anything hard, like Nylabones for example, because her jaw is very fragile.

So I'm sure Winston will thrive, too, once he gets back into shape.  Bless you for what you do!

That breaks my heart to see him so skinny!
Glad he is eating- sometime just knowing they are safe and secure in a home makes them want to eat and be happy.  You are a special person to take him in and care for him! :angel4:

Thanks for the compliments.
I learned last night that Winston LOVES bread. so i gave him bread last night quite a bit before i went to bed. He is not wobbling anymore but actually trots back inside. He waits on me to pick him up to go upstairs.

Winston looks so much like Guinness, who just turned 12!  And they have the same bed!

Hooray for senior doxies! :hello2:
