Last week two stray lab mixed puppies showed up at my house. They were about to get run over so I put them in my back yard. I have been feeding them while I waited on a reply from my Lost and Found ad in the paper. I am guessing they are about six month old. Well, my neighbor next door got a new cocker spaniel puppy (about 8 wks old). For a week now she has been putting the puppy in my backyard because her yard is not fenced in. The puppy would only visit a couple of hours while she cleaned her house.
Last night, the puppy got really sick with bloody diarehha and they took her to the vet school where they said the puppy has parvo. THe vet said the puppy got it from my stray puppies. My question is this... If she got parvo from these puppies wouldn't they be sick too or at least show symptoms of parvo. I am not worried about Lucy because she is vaccinated and 3 1/2 years old. I seem to think the puppy had parvo when they got it from the breeder because these stray dogs are not sick. Can they be a carrier? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time
Sorry - but I don't know anything about the trasmitting of parvo - maybe others will - or Google Parvo and you will most likely get a ton of information.
Most diseases have a incubation period bet the Cocker Pup already had it if the Lab pups were not sick they may soon be sick from the Cocker Pup I would look up Parvo on the Internet also get the lastest information. My neighboor down the street told me that her 10 year old dog got Parvo she does Pet Sitting and Greyhound Rescue so not much tell where her 10 year old dog got it.Where did the neighbor get the Cocker Pup Pet Store? Breeder? if Pet Store they are really bad to have Parvo sometimes. Parvo is very hard to kill from what I have read Bleach kills I think not sure what you can do to get it out of your yard I would call my vet.

have a feeling its like most diseases its the young and old it hits. Older dogs that are vacinnated should be OK, even if they get it, it would probably be treatable.
As the idea with vaccines is when given the first time in low dose the body mounts a response to the "disease" then when they get their next one, a stronger response is seen.
I agree with Lucy the pup may have had it. at 8 weeks it would not have had any vaccine as I think the youngest they can give the first is 12 weeks. That is why out here breeders and KCC say pups are not given out till after their first injection and even then keep in for a week (till it kicks in ) and still not to be out and about till 16 weeks.
I do believe they can treat parvo, but cannot say how adn it may be touch and go.
God bless that little guy

I called the vet and she told me to mix 1/3 bleach with 2/3 water then spray my yard. So yesterday was a fun filled day of removing poop from the yard and spraying with bleach solution. I didnt realize how much dogs poop and did you know that they only go in one certain area. I found the "bathroom" very quickly.
I am taking the pups and Lucy to the vet this am. Lucy is due for her yearly shots. The pups are going to checked out and possible vaccianted also.
The neighbors pup is better. THe vet school gave her some anitbotics and iv fluid. They caught it before it got into her blood stream. THe vet agreed the puppy probably got it from the breeders home or another dog at the breeders house.
