Title: Latest Update on Penny
Post by: Kari on March 02, 2007, 09:33:45 AM
I'm sure you are all getting tired of me talking about Penny  :verdict: but you are going to get another update  :2much:! I talked with her neurosurgeon yesterday to give her an update and get instructions on tapering her drugs some more. The doctor was pleased that she is doing so well and has responded to the tapering of the prednisone just fine. So she wants me to stop the prednisone completely and continue the immune suppressant every other day. I will talk to her in another 2 weeks and we will probably move the immune suppresant to every third day. So all in all she is happy with the progress Penny is making! I am a little nervous to stop the prednisone - so I'm just holding my breath that everything goes well! Thanks for all the rays and support :cheer:.  Happy Friday!

So true! She has been camping in the kitchen since she got of crate rest. It drives us nuts! We will be in the living room hanging out in the evening watching TV and she will be sitting on the carpet in the kitchen next to the refrigerator  :verdict:!

Last night I brought some lotion I had gotten from Bath and Bodyworks from the kitchen to the master bathroom. In Schatzi's food oriented mind, that meant I must have brought food into the bathroom. For the next twenty minutes she stared and then whined at the bathroom counter (I was in the bedroom) wanting whatever I had put up there. I finally picked her up and let her sniff around so she could hopefully realize there was NO food. It still took another five minutes or so before she gave up. Just gotta love that stubborn doxie temperament!

Please do not be too concerned about getting Penny off the Prednisone the sooner the better in the long run for it has allot of bad side effects. I have a sister that was on it a very, very long time she now has Diabetes another friend that was on it years for Lupus is now a insulin dependent Diabetic. I sure your vet knows this and want to wean Penny off that drug as soon as he can safely know you just can not stop it all at once. Prednisone is a good drug to keep swelling down but as with most drugs it has its bad side too. I have had my share of those type drugs for my back try not to take them at all.

That's exciting news about Penny!  :hello2:
Cookie likes to come and get us like she has to go outside but then runs past the front door and over to her food box and sits an wags her tail.  She is so proud of fooling us, and thinking she will get another snack.  :2funny:
Doxies are determined to get more food all the time!
