Dolly here. Today was NOT a good dachsie doggy day. First, things started out badly....we didn't get BREAKFAST! Whatsup wiff dat? Then auntie Cinde came over in da doggy van and we had to get in da van wiff auntie Cinde and Mommy. Guess where we ended up? At Dr. Linda's! I didn't even feel sick and Madderoo didn't either. THEN.....Mommy LEFT US there!! All day!!! And then suddenly we were boof very sleepy. When we woke up, we felt kinda yucky and our toes were (gulp) CHOPPED OFF. But the main thing is, our moufs were kinda sore. We suspect something funny happened to us when we were sleeping. Finally, we tought the bad day was over when at five o'clock, our papa came to take us home. We were so happy to leave dat place. I mean, they let a C.A.T. have run of da place. Kinda disgustin', don't you think? Well, anyway, we got home and tought our mommy would be so glad to see us that she would give us a BIG dinner. No dice. We didn't get dinner at all until about 2 hours later!! Don't they know starving dachshunds when they see 'em? Finally we got dinner and now we're down for a nap. Mommy tried stuffing a antibi-something in a squirter down my froat but I wouldn't let her. That earned me a few more kibble because the anti-stuff had to be squirted on it. The Roo took her squirt wiff no fuss......she didn't get extra kibble :nana:
So now you know our tail of woe. Ps....Dollys know how to spell......it WAS a TAIL of woe. Booo hooo hooo. Arrrrooooooooo! We've got the shiniest teefs in town.

I bet your teeth look great! I can't believe your mom didnt' have dinner ready for you! Doesn't she know you would be starving if you didn't get breakfast!! Hope you are feeling better today!
Poor Dolly and Maddie! But I bet your breath smells really good now. And having your toes chopped off while you're asleep is the best way to do it. Now that it's all over, don't you feel better? Gretchen says she feels your pain. She went through the same thing a few weeks ago. She came home a new doggie.
Sandi, did you get that Oravet stuff put on? We had both girls done about a year ago but didn't keep up with the Oravet goo. I'm not really sure, since we didn't keep up with it, if it made a difference. I know that within about a month, Gretchie's mouth started smelling and we could see a plaque line on her teeth. We are trying it again.
Hope you girls are feeling better this morning and I bet your toofies are bright and shiny and your toes are SOOO manicured !!!

We got that Oravet stuff too - but we haven't been super good about it with everything that has been going on with Penny. I wonder if it is worth putting it on again if we weren't consistant with it??
Poor babies! I bet your teeth look beautiful! Maybe you will get some extra treats today for being so good yesterday???????
I'm not sure, Kari. I have been wondering the same thing. We originally got both girls done and were putting it on both of them. After we missed a few weeks, we just let it go. When Gretchen started showing signs of needing her teeth done, we were kicking ourselves for not keeping up with it because we probably could have avoided her having to go through that again. We didn't get Ilsa done because she doesn't seem to make the amount of plaque that Gretchen does. Her teeth still look good and her mouth doesn't smell. I had every intention of asking the vet about starting Ilsa on it again when I picked Gretchen up but I forgot. I'm sure they're gonna say she needs a dental first, though, because it means more money for them. I might just call and ask.
One more thing about the Oravet, for those out there that might use it. Those little tubes can be used about 3 times for our little ones. I dab in a Q Tip, using both ends for her whole mouth. Once you've put it in their mouths, though, you can't dab again with that same end. I tape up the tube and it's ready for the next week. Those packs can get pricey, but it's not as expensive if it goes 3 times as long.
Sandi here. They both did great. Dolly has one slightly fractured tooth that we'll be watching but the vet didn't see the need to pull it. The grrrrls sure were peeved at us last night, though. Maddie was at her squeaky best and might have been in a bit of pain because she (and we) didn't have the most restful sleep. This morning they were much more calm knowing that breakfast was on time and everything was right with their world.
Just a note on teeth cleaning, my friend Cinde, who dropped us off, has Rat Terriers. She feeds them a raw diet and says they never need their teeth cleaned. I supposed that would be true, but I'm still just too chicken to feed mine chicken bones. Milo and Callie get drumsticks and a supplement of some kind.
We will try to keep up with the "brushing". Dr. Linda didn't mention OralVet (though I have some left from the last time Maddie had her teeth done), but she did say to take a wet washrag to their teeth about once a week. Maddie will be easier than The Doll, who isn't thrilled with anyone playing with her mouth.
Dolly and Maddie say WOOF to all their pupper friends and aunties and unkas.
Glad to hear they are back to normal today. I'm with you on the raw feeding. I know it's good for them, but I just can't do it. Besides, it's got to make it hard to travel.
I hope you girls feel much better today and your food rations are back on schedule. Alex gives big hugs to Dolly, and a snuggle to Maddie. Willy says hi, too.
