Title: Human food
Post by: Jenny G on February 14, 2007, 03:42:17 PM
I think we've covered this topic a few times but how often do you sneak your kids some human food?  I usually give them something for special occations - usually chicken or eggs or lately - cheeseburgers & fries from McDonalds!

They normally eat Wellness and get a treat after both meals.  Berman has always been a slim 10 1/2 lbs or so.  Lucy is about 13 1/2 but she's much longer than Berman. I worry about them getting overweight because I know how hard it was to try to get Annie Angel's weight down.

Anyway the question is - how often is too often for human food?

I think the answer to this question:

"Anyway the question is - how often is too often for human food?"

really depends on the food - carrots, green beans, and such seem OK everyday

McDonald's, Starbucks, and such probably not so much for them or us.

You know - I think that sounds about right!  Last night instead of fixing them some human food for Valentine's Day, I stopped and got them a can of Merrick's Cowboy Cookout food.  They really liked it and I mixed in a little of their dry food.  Maybe that's something I can do for special occasions.  I read the ingrediants and it's full of good for you stuff!

Not sure what the "norm" should be - but our 2 get scrambled eggs anytime we eat them (at least once a week) - it is good protein for them.  if I bake chicken, I will give them each a couple of small bites.  If we get fast food burgers - they get a nibble or 2 of the burger only.  They get a few cheetos when we eat them - but for the most part we don't give them human food.

Ozzy gets scrambled eggs on special occasions.  When he has an upset tummy, my vet recommends rice and hamburger (cooked).  I admit I did give him a bit of roast beef last night, simply because I felt guilty about putting him back in the crate while I went to aqua aerobics class.

His regular food is Nutro Natural Choice lamb and rice small bites, mixed with those Natural Choice gourmet meals in the small pouches.  That seems to be keeping him at his fighting weight of around 7 pounds.
