A dachshund/basset/bagle mix named Amy was poisoned with bowls of chicken bones, bacon grease and antifreeze. A neighbor, Jack Carl Schroeder, 58 of the 10600 block of Rachel Yates Court in Laurel, Maryland was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, poisoning a dog and destruction of property, Howard County police said yesterday. The charges carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and more than $7,500 in fines.
Schroeder told police that he had put the poison out for the dog, leading to her death in early January, according to court documents. The dog's owner Kathy McSweeney, said Schroeder has had numerous disagreements with neighbors - particularly aout noise - and that he had complained aout the dogs her family had had over the years.
Ms. McSweeney and her husband, Stefan Cassella, an atorney for the U.S. Justice Department, have lived next door to Schroeder for the last 18 years. They were further alarmed, McSweeney said, because theirprevious dog, a beagle and German Shepherd mix, died in April 2004 after displaying similar symptoms. They did not report that dog's death to the police at the time because they did not believe someone would hurt their dog on purpose.
The article is in www.baltsun.com under today's Maryland section. I can't even say what I think should happen to Mr. Schroeder.
As the animal control officer for the police and city i work for, i work barking complaints quite often. One of the recent ones, the complainant allegedly said to the dog owner back last fall that he was going to throw a bomb into her back yard. I advised this dog owner to go to the police department to document this statement which she did.
We can never say that our neighbors wont do such things.
This person that did this should get the full prison sentence and then some. He should have to pay her for all her grief and anything else she requests. This man is dispicable to put it mildly.
I will keep this type of story in mind when i deal with such complaints.
I am so sorry for this family's loss.
That is so sad and I pray the man gets everything they can throw at him.
Good Grief! Hope he gets what he deserves. Hopefully it will help that her husband is an atorney for the U.S. Justice Department. Keep us posted!
That's awful. I'm speechless.
In Howard County, Maryland (a suburb of both Baltimore and Washington D.C.), where this unfortunate crime took place, they do take animal cruelty cases seriously. Unless this creep plea bargains, expect the maximum charges allowable by law to be brought against him.
He needs to eat the same thing in Prison everyday till it does what he did to Amy so he knows howw terrible it was for her,bet if they checked around he may have done it to other dogs too.
