Title: Dr. Beau Leaky - Book Critic
Post by: Doxherding Karen on February 06, 2007, 08:02:15 PM
It seems that Dr. Beau Leaky is quite the book critic.  Last week he was on my bed and decided to take a nibble on the corner of a library book, "Voices from the Mountains."  I caught him in mid-nibble, and firmly told to stop the bad behaviors.  But not too firmly - after all, he didn't get the nickname "Leaky" for nothing!  The minute he starts to roll over submissively, I walk away and ignore him in the hopes of avoiding a Leaky event.

Two days later, he found a novel by Jodi Picault.  He gnawed on the bottom edge of the spine, but the book only looked a little the worse for wear.  Does gnawing mean it's so good he can't pass it up or so bad he feels a duty to remove the offending missive from circulation?

Yesterday, he was in his element.  He stole another Jodi Picault book from my night table and shredded the back, part of the spine, and the end pages.  This evening I went to the library and confessed, "my dog ate my books!"  The library staff was suitably impressed at the dachshund's chewing ability, but not too thrilled to have their books be the target.

The nibbled book hasn't gone back to the library yet.  The shredded book had previously been stamped "damage noted" so the librarian took pity on me and said I wouldn't have to pay for that one.  That left the gnawed-on book to be bought by me.  $18 for a book I never would have bought - there goes my Nylabone budget for the month! :dontknow:

My Rudy-angel was a book critic, too.   I still have in my collection "Weiner Dog Art" by Gary Larson, with a nice chunk taken out of it.

Hummmm......  I'd say that he is a very good critic!  I LOVE Jodi Picault and I do believe that a few of mine have some nibble marks in the corners as well!
