Hi,
Here are our three newest dachshunds. Melanie adopted all of them last year. The first two are Willie and Tootsie. They are son and mother, 10 and 11 years old, and pretty much inseparable. They are big -- about 18 pounds each. They were dumped at the shelter in Pensacola, Florida, after their owner died. They are so sweet, never have accidents (well, except on the pool deck) and just a joy. Willie loves to groom his mother. Willie is the one with the red lobster toy in his mouth. Melanie and I bought it in Bar Harbor, Maine, on our honeymoon in October, and Willie loves it! And he hasn't managed to destroy it yet. Must have some special meaning for him.
The third doxie is Heidi. Melanie took her from a family at Eglin Air Force base near Fort Walton Beach, Florida, whose daughter had severe allergies to their dogs. Melanie fostered Heidi for Florida Dachshund Rescue, and we had her on our web site for a while, but Melanie decided we couldn't part with her. And since Heidi really loves ME more than Melanie, I'm good with that (don't show this to Melanie!)
Heidi is 5 years old and has a terrific temperament but does like to have her way. She recently had to have surgery to fix a ruptured cervical disc in her neck. She was like night and day afterward, so much better and you'd never know now that she was hurt.
I'm thrilled to be the guardian, along with Melanie, of this wonderful pack of doxies, bassets and clumber.
What sweet-looking doxies! I love Heidi's eyes. Thank you for taking them in!
Mack, they're beautiful! They all look so sweet, and by what you wrote about each of them, I'm sure they are! You and Melanie are such wonderful people for rescuing all these doxies. :angel4:
How are your three puppers doing? How is Ivan?
How is Melanie doing with the pregnancy? Did your ultrasound last month reveal what you're having?
Hope you all are doing ok. Were you all affected by the terrible storms that ripped through Florida last week?
Hi Mack!
I love the lobster squeaky--what a fortunate find!
You three new babies are wonderful! Blessings to you for adopting the seniors especially. As for Heidi, wanting her way is just typical dachsie, and you can't blame her for that.
Now what's this about a CLUMBER!?!?! Where is his/her photo? Inquiring minds want to know! I want a clumber, but kevin isn't sure about the whole dachsie/clumber combo. Please tell us about yous and how it fits in with the rest of the family. I had a line on some dachsie/clumber pups that were in rescue, but by the time I found out about them, they had all been adopted. Good for them, bummer for me.

Great pictures! Looks like you have your hands full! I love the pic of Willie with the lobster - like he's just asking someone to try and take it from him. And I do believe Miss Heidi has the l@@k down! Cute! Cute!
OMG - I could just smooch them all !!!!! Thanks Mack for being such a loving furkid parent !!!
Glad to see pictures of all the "kids". It is wonderful how well they are blending together as a new family.
Happy to hear all is going well with you and Melanie too!!! Looking forward to the whole family picture if you manage one .
Merion & the ZZ's
They are all adorable! Makes me want to adopt more doxies!
It always warms my heart to hear about people adopting older dogs.

Hi Jeri,
There's another thread I started previously with pics of our "honorary'' dachshunds, including Bear, our Clumber. Check it out here: http://www.wienerwritings.com/forum/index.php?topic=2953.0

We do have to be careful with Bear. He is food and toy aggressive, which is not the best things with several doxies running around. We have three gates placed strategically in our house so that we can manage the comings and goings of all are kids, since we want all to have access to us and at least parts of the house.
Even from what I've read about Clumbers, they like to be solitary dogs -- and we have 11 total in the house, so that doesn't seem to jibe. There have been a couple of altercations and the doxies have gotten nipped. Usually it's a quick reply by Bear -- he doesn't pounce and stay engaged. Two of our doxies, my Willy and the foster Mojo stare down Bear -- not smart, since Bear doesn't like that. But they persist, so we have to keep those two in particular away from Bear.

My original three are all doing well, even Ivan. At least he's not getting worse. Hannah turns 10 in a couple of weeks -- it's hard to believe. I will say all of mine have gained some weight. Melanie likes to prepare food each day for all the dogs and she's liberal with the treats. We're currently using kibble (Solid Gold Holistique) supplemented each meal with one of the following, rotated for variety: cooked chicken hearts, cooked turkey necks, canned mackerel, cooked chicken.
Melanie is now at 21 weeks. We had hoped to know the sex of the baby a few weeks ago, but the kid did not cooperate. We were with the doctor and ultrasound tech for an hour but they could not see what they needed to see. Baby's hand kept covering up the vital parts! We have another ultrasound scheduled for Feb. 21.
We were four hours south of the tornados that hit Central Florida, so only got some rain.
I am so happy to get to see your new babies, Mack. I dont get to see enough of your pictures when Melanie and i email.
Thanks for sharing. Share more!!!
