There was no way to break this news easily. Dan and I are in shock. Yesterday afternoon Misty had what looked like a seizure. I got her to a vet in Wasilla and they gave her a Valium to calm her down. Then they did blood work, which came back fine. But all told, it was not a seizure, but probably the result of a brain lesion. I got her back home and she still kept twitching. I held her for a long time, and the twitching would stop every now and then and she slept. When Dan got home he held her. We had her on a pillow on his lap. He was petting Misty and she got real calm and peaceful Then she just let out her last breath. She went very, very peacefully. We cried a lot last night. Poor Dan had to work today, and his bosses are out of town so he is running the whole show. I've never seen him cry like he did last night. Dan and Misty had a very special bond. Misty will be cremated and her ashes will be buried next to Domingo at some point. Misty was our rescue girl, we got her when she was 5 months old. She would have been 7 years old in May. I am at my sisters house typing this on her computer as we don't have internet at home. But I wanted to let you guys know, some of you actually met Misty at DD's bow-wow a few years ago. Misty was very special, sweet and good, all girl. We will miss her very much.
Oh Patty, I am just broken hearted for you and Dan and the boys. I simply do not know what to say except that you are in my prayers. There are just no words.
Godspeed Misty-Angel. You were, and continue to be so very loved by so very many.

Patty, we are so sorry that you lost your sweet little girl. She had several good years with you, and was loved at every moment, icluding her last. I can't find the words to express our sorrow or sympathy, but we are grieving with youo.

How heartbreaking and so sudden. I am saddened for you and Dan. We know that we will lose our girl Zelda to Cirosis at some point and I hope it will be peacefull like Misty. Heartfelt thougths and special rays your way. I have a son out there in Prudhoe on the pipeline, so I look for your posts often. His fiance grew up in Nome and lives in Fairbanks, they met in Vegas and plan to move back here to Md this summer. I had the privilege of meeting a very bouncy Misty at Dee's home. Oh, goodness. I can barely express the feelings I have right now. If any thing is to be said, I guess, if it's any comfort, she went quickly and peacefully. I'm horribly distraught, but not nearly as you two dear friends are. Please know I care. I care for you, because you are my DEAR friends and I know you are hurting terribly right now. May you accept my sympathy and my heartfelt feelings for your comfort and solace.

Oh, no! That has to be a big shock to all of us! I can't believe my eyes! Well, I am sure Miss Gretl and Miss Siglen were waiting for her at the Bridge, ready to show her the ropes, since they met her, too... Oh NO! I'm so sorry to read of this. It was sudden but as others have said she was loved from the moment she joined your family through her last breath and she knew it. She is still loved by many people, even though we've not 'met' her personally, she's part of our dachsie family!
I, along with the others here, am typing through my tears. It was such a shock to read about Misty, and I know you must still be in a state of disbelief yourselves. Lately I've been so overprotective with Schatzi, probably because this is the time of the year that Kendall-angel went to the Bridge. I'll give her a few extra hugs tonight and tell her about a sweet little rescue girl who was very loved. I'll be saying a few prayers for you and Dan as you try to deal with this change in your household. Give Willy and Alex some belly rubs for me. I know they must be missing their sister, too.
My heart goes out to you and Dan ( and the boyz) with this news. When one of us here loses a furkid, we all feel the pain. Thank you for letting us know.

We're in a total state of shock. I had to read the topic line about three times before it registered. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the both of you and to Willy and Alex, who lost their dachsie sister. Even though her time with you was short, and her lifespan was not nearly as long as it should have been, at a minimum, you can take solace in that you gave Misty a lot of happiness and love that she would not have had if you had not opened your homes and your heart to her.
Patty I was so shocked to hear this news. I don't even know what to say...I know there are no words that even come close, I am in shock, and totally devasted for you guys. I just can't believe it. She has been so healthy! I am SO sorry....it isn't going to seem real for a while, I can just imagine what you and Dan are going through. I am so glad I got to meet that sweet, beautiful little girl. It's so unfair. It's just terrifying they can be taken from us so fast and so young without any notice. Please let Dan know too, that we are all thinking and praying for you both and of course also the boys. This is not real...
"OH my God" I know how you feel when you say it does not real. Nick and I feel for you both. I can recommend getting plastered, it helped us the first time with Angus. Poor Dan, but at least he is letting his emotions out, our thoughts are with you and the boys.
Remember we are all here for you both.
Keep strong Misty knew she was loved and very much wanted, and although hard for you she went in the arms of someone she loved, gently.

Oh Patty I am so sorry. When my kitty Fluffy was 18 she had the same thing as Misty and is now at the Bridge bossing everyone around. I never met Misty but loved all the stories about her. She was truly one special little girl.

Dan and I are so stunned at the suddenly loss of Misty, especially at such a young age. We did all we could for her. I am not sitting here saying "if only I had done this" or "I should have done that sooner" or whatever. I'm glad I'm not doubting myself on top of all the pain I am in. What we thought was a seizure wasn't a seizure afterall. What took Misty was more like a stroke or brain aneurysm (sp?). I am glad I got her to the vet when I did. If it had been a seizure, they would have been able to stop it, but it was something a lot more serious that none of us could do anything for. I do think the Valium she was given when they thought it was a seizure relaxed Misty and kept her comfortable until she died. And she died so peacefully we hardly noticed. Dan was petting her as she slipped away. Thanks for all your good thoughts, you guys are such a big help during times like this.
