Typically, the Zs spend the night in their crate. However, when I come in very late from a band job, Margie usually gets up with Jessica and feeds the Zs while I try to get a bit more sleep. After their breakfast, they like to retire to the bedroom (after all, eating is such hard work!). We've been putting the Zs up on the big bed so they can snuggle up with me.
Zora dutifully burrows under the covers and quietly curls herself into a ball next to me. Not so with Zeke. Zeke's initial reaction to be placed on the big bed is to go into a series of his "happy rolls" and he even "talks" during his happy rolls. Then he pounces on top of me and begins licking my neck right under my chin. If I try to pull the covers over the spot he is licking, he circles around trying to find another piece of exposed skin to lick. Finally, I have to quiet him down and he plops down next to me. However, the instant I stir or make any indication that I am becoming alert, he pounces again, sometimes even barking to get me to "play". At that point, my options are to either quiet him down, at which point the cycle begins again, or I actually get up.
There is a third option, but I really don't have 100% control over it: Zeke absolutely freaks out whenever someone passes gas. If I "let one rip", Zeke leaps off the bed and heads back into his crate. This behavior is also the same if we are sitting on the couch, and it takes some gentle persuasion to convince Zeke to rejoin us. We can't figure this out, it's like he's never experienced this before. Our best guess is that my family is simply more uncouth than Yamisi's!
It's really been quite amazing to see Zeke's character really blossom over the last few weeks. Perhaps he is finally feeling "at home" in his new surroundings. Zeke is everything you want a male dachshund to be, but he is also very trainable, which is not a typical characteristic of alpha-male type dachshunds like Zeke. For Zeke, approval and affection from his hoomans is more of a motivation than even food, so he will do what he has to do gain both approval and affection, even if it runs contrary to his inherent dachsiness.
sounds like fun if your not trying to get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's. Oliver is similar does not lie still for long, while with Amy its great I can sleep again.
Letting it rip affect nether, th only one that did not like it was Angus who gave you a distanful look as he walked away.
Don't you just love their excentricities.

:2funny: I got a good laff outta that story. Let 'er rip, Zeke! In our house, the "ripper" is Dolly and she is not bothered by it attall. Great update on the kids, David.
Too funny about "letting er rip!"
Penny is miss snooty pants when it comes to gas. If she is sitting with you and you pass gas she will get up and give you a dirty look and leave... :2funny:
We love morning cuddle time in our house too! Skeeter is the snuggler, but Boone has a heavy coat and smothers under covers. Boone is also an insatiable skin licker, and it takes some effort to get him to stop.
Leopold hated farts, too. If he heard one, he would look offended and move away. SBDs were fine. You could stink all you wanted, as long as he didn't have to hear it.
Zeke just needs to adjust to your flatuent personality!
The Herd has their half of my queen-sixed bed. I have three round dog bed cushions on their side and three of them sleep in them. Guinness, the old man mini alpha, sleeps anywhere he wants to - under my covers, under one of The Herd's cushions, next to a Herd member - whatever mood he is in. He's 12 and he loves me unconditionally, so who am I to argue with him over where he sleeps? :thumb:
