Hello everyone. Sorry that I haven't been on in quite a while. I have have been reading the posts when I need a break (from our problems)....silently praying for the puppers in trouble (Penny, Berman, etc) and enjoying the wonderful pics and antics.
I last posted in December about Franky's trouble with blood in his urine and we have been on a downward spiral since then. First we started with a urinalysis and antibiotics, then a catheterization for a sterile urine sample and more antibiotics, then an ultrasound, then a cystoscopy and bladder biopsy. My dear Frank is on his 2nd day in the hospital because we almost lost him. About 2 days after the cystoscopy, he became real lethargic, then stopped eating & drinking, and essentially not moving. We rushed him back to the specialist... to discover that his temp was 106F and his blood platelet count was 90,000 when it should be 250,00 to 500,000. Thankfully they were able to drop his temperature quickly and his platelet count has begun to rise. They are treating him for an autoimmune disease (antibiotics and steroids). We don't have the test results yet.... they believe it could be either Lupus, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, a drug induced autoimmune attack or a number of other diseases.
I will post an update when we find out what the test results show.
We were able to visit with him yesterday and today and he is looking better! He's one tough cookie! I am praying that he will be stable enough to come home tomorrow.
Sorry that I have not been here to be supportive of the other puppers in need. I think of you all, often.
