Title: Penny's Weekend Update
Post by: Kari on January 20, 2007, 03:44:04 PM
Just wanted to post a quick update on Penny. We are almost 3 weeks post-op and 2 weeks post-immune system problem diagnosis. She seems to be doing well. We have been taking her on short walks every day and she has been doing well with the walking. There have been a few times over the past week that she has "yelped" slightly when we have picked her up but not to the extent that she was before the surgery. Her pain medication has been reduced by half this past week and today she started every other day on the immune suppressent drug Imuran. On Monday the Prednisone will go to 1/2 one time a day instead of two times a day. And a week from Monday we will have our follow-up. So she seems to be doing as well as can be expected. Thanks for the continued rays. Every day is one step at a time. I am doing better as well, jut every so often get down in the dumps about the whole situation. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I'm so glad she is doing well. I know it has to be a relief to you, but I can understand those occasional moments of panic, still. I'm sure the walks are great for both of you. Nothing like a little fresh air.

Penny, I LOVE your pink and white blanket. You look like such a girlie-girl with it!

I love her blanket too- her pen looks like such a comfy area!

I am so glad she is doing better.  :thumb:  I bet she loves getting out for her little walks.
Now, with the immune suppressant, do you have to keep her away from other dogs/ animals?  Does she have an increased risk of getting sick?

Glad you are doing better too.

At this point we do have to keep her confined and away from other animals, but apparently that isn't a long term situation! I had the same exact question...I was worried she would never be able to be outside around other animals

That is great news! I feel for you, having been there more times than I want to remember....it is a terrifying feeling and you get so exhausted and just want things back like they were. But the fight is worth it and you will have Penny back like she was! The pic is great, she is soooo cute and the blanket it perfect for her. Hang in there with all this...this too shall pass! I'll bet the walks do you both a world of good.
