Penny was 2 weeks post-op on Monday so they said on Tuesday that we could start taking her for short 5 min walks :walk2:! She was so excited to be out of her crate! I walked her down to our mailbox and she did pretty well. She was a little wobbly but was able to keep her balance. At one point she started going too fast and ended up hoping with her back legs instead of walking. I think she is getting really tired of her crate especially since she isn't on as much pain medication (which had been keeping her sedate). I talked with her doctor today to get the results of her CBC and everyting was fine. They were worried about her white blood cell count being too low with the immune suppressent drugs but she said actually it was a little high (which is normal for dogs on prednisone). So everyone is okie dokie with her blood work! She has lost a little bit over a pound during this whole ordeal - she was 12.5 in December and now she was 11.2 on Monday.
Last night was a bit of a fiasco :verdict:...I wanted to go to bed early so we set up her crate in the bedroom and I went to bed. Drew stayed up with Penny on the couch since he hadn't seen her much yesterday. He came up about 10 min after I went to bed and said that she got really upset that I had left to go to bed and that she wouldn't sit still! So he put her in her crate in the bedroom to go to bed with me. Well...when he closed the door she got upset again and started barking :doah:. Apparently we both have to go to bed with her at the same time in the same room !
Whohoooo!! Glad to hear Penny is improving :thumb:

:apls: :apls: How marvelous that Penny had her first walk!!! :hello2: :hello2: Over all I think she is doing really well in her crate (the Penny Cam has been a wonderful idea!!). My Zoe did well and we used Kongs stuffed with peanut butter and she loved them and they kept her pretty busy.
Throughout her back surgery and crating period, Zoe became extremely attached to her "mommy" and is still to this day. Before that, she was more of a "daddy's girl" and my Winston was the "momma's boy". But their roles have reversed and now Winnie is a "daddy's boy". I guess that happens!! (For weeks I did sleep on the floor next to her crate...lol...I guess that wasn't a good thing :verdict:).
Hubby built a ramp up to the big bed and then we bought child bedrails and placed them all around the bed. So...the bed looks like a big play pen but we both feel secure in knowing the puppies can't jump off the bed anywhere and this forced them to learn to use the ramp. The bedrails work out really good because you can either lower them down to get out or just take them off and on really easy....and now both of us and our two minis can sleep in the big bed together!!!
That is great news Kari! Rays heading your way for Penny's continued improvement!
LOL...I love the bedtime story! They do rule our worlds, don't they?

So true! It is all about Princess Penny
Sounds like Penny is making great progress!!! :thumb:
This is AWESOME news! Can't keep a good dachsie down! Your bed time story was FUNNY! Real manipulators, ain't they?
That is wonderful news that she got to go on a little walk. :hello2: She is doing so well.
Funny about bedtime- Princess Penny needed for everyone to go to bed at the same time! :laughing6:
That is so good to hear!! I love the visual. I'll bet it felt so good to her! She is coming along so well!!! :apls:
LOL on the bedtime story. She is now head of the household! LOL. All is right in the order of things. Keep it up Penny Girl!!!
Cheryl I had to laugh at your bed rails story too. When Hallie was on rest for a few weeks this summer, I put the tall X Pen tight around our bed so we could still sleep in the big bed. The first morning, I woke up all groggy, and lay there staring blankly at the X Pen walls, thinking "What the h***...??? Am I in a crib?" LOL it was the most confusing odd moment...
So glad Penny is doing so well. Sending rays and smoochies to Princess Penny.
