I am very upset. I have noticed that Beemer's bottom little black lip was far mopre noticable than Mercedes'. This morning he was looking up at me and I saw it more. Mercedes looked up and I did not see her bottom lip at all. I picked Beemer up and checked his teeth. Sure enough he has an underbite. Right now his teeth are still developing and coming through the gums but, top teeth do not look the best. He has no apparent trouble eating which is a good thing. I know it has to do with genetics, he was the runt and still is. I just hate to see it happen and know tha tit will be more prominent and a possible problem as he gets older. Any thoughts? Bev
As long as it's not severe and he can eat normally a bad bite (over or under) causes the dog no long term problems  If you notice he has trouble eating then I would ask the vet about it but generally it's not anything to worry about!
Jen
Thank you Jen for the reassurance. As far as I can tell right now, he is not having any problems eating or attacking his sister. Even if he looks funny later I will still love him. I am so totally in love with him now. Bev
Hey Bev, I am told that a dachshunds over/under bite will present itself by 6 month's of age. It usually is no problem to the health of the dog, unless it is really severe! Or causes problems with chewing or eating! It is something gentic and dogs with over/under bites shouldn't be bred! Don't listen to your landlord, neuter the guys as they get old enough, and just love, love, love them! :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7:
Trust me Dottie!!! The decision to neuter and spay was a no brainer. Mercedes has pretty confirmation however, her genetics does not make for a good breeder. Beemer is tiny and that may be desirable for some breeders --but with the under bite and his genetics that is a big no!!! I do not need to add to the population -- we have enough reputable breeders without me adding to the number. They are going on 11 weeks and will be up for spay and neutering soon. I am so in love with them that I will be just happy if they stay healthy and do not develop any major health problems due to the father/daughter breeding.
