Title: Dolly Update
Post by: Sandishooligans on January 11, 2007, 10:15:32 AM
I hope y'all don't mind a new thread started on my Dolly.  She, unfortunately, did not keep her very meager supper down last night.  She would not eat the wet Rx food the vet sent home with her this morning.  She DID eat the antibiotic pill and she licked the cooked egg yolk that I left for her from my breakfast.  I will be going home at lunch to check on her.  If she has thrown up again, it will be back to the vet's for more care.  I will write an update this afternoon after I get home to check on her.    for my sweet baby grrrrl. :(

I too was hoping for better news this morning. Since the bloodwork came back normal could it be a partial blockage from the bone that is the culprit? The worst is not knowing sometimes...did the vet say how long to wait and watch her before going on to the next step? Has to be excruciating for you to be waiting! Keep us posted.

An UPDATE...

I got home at lunch and thankfully, no urps.  She seemed more interested in food, so I gave her about a tablespoon of the canned stuff.  She gladly ate it and drank water.  Thankfully, when I got home at 5:00, no messes.  I fed her about the same for a lite dinner.  If she does well, I'll give her another little bit around 8:00.  She went straight to bed after eating her supper. She seems very weak and wants to be warm but she didn't seem fever warm like last night.  She heard the UPS guy and proceeded to give him what for from under her blankies.  Hoping for the best tonight.

Thank you for the rays and for caring.

That sounds encouraging Sandi! I have been checking in here all day. Hopefully whatever it is, is working its way out of her system and she'll be up causing trouble again in no time. (as my Dad used to say)  :thumb: Keep it up Dolly!

Glad to hear she's keeping her food down today.  I hope she continues to feel better.  Telling the UPS guy off is a GOOD thing in this case!

Friday afternoon update.  Food is staying down so far.  I just went home and she was sleeping.  Let's hope this trend continues.  Now my concern is that I haven't seen her poop in a day or so.  I could understand before cuz she didn't have anything to give but now I'm watching like a hawk.  I'm going to be late coming home today so I'm giving Mark strict orders to feed her 2 spoonfuls of wet food and take her outside.  If she deosn't do business there, he is to take her (he'll probably have to pick her up and carry her) down the street to one of the open areas of our park.  She get nervous when she's away from home and is usually good for a GOOD poop there.  She is very weak and seems much thinner to me.  This thing really has taken a lot out of her.  Day by day, hopin' for the best.  It just makes me sad because she seems so frail, when before she was such a stout pupper.  Hoping for better tomorrows.

Sandi

Well, so far, so good.  I think we're out of the woods but I get the feeling this BUG really got her down and it will be awhile before she's back to her ol' Dolly self.  She's very weak but at least her appetite isn't.  Yep, true dachsie.  Maddie is very jealous that she doesn't get the wet food like the patient does.  Oh, speaking of Maddie, last night they were both on the couch and Maddie was being such a good nurse.  She spent many minutes giving Dolly a nice spit bath.  It was sweet.  Dolly spent the night in the BIG bed.  She asked to be put up on it.  Before, she was happy to be in the laundry room.  So hopefully, slowly but surely, we're on the way to a well Dolly.  Couldn't have done it withou your rays and good thoughts.  Thank you.

There is a girl on Dodgerslist (Amy Foster) whose daschie "Oliver" it appears is having some of the same symptoms as Dolly.  She gave him a treat yesterday (a doggie treat that was supposed to last a couple of days) and he devoured it....then he started acting funny...lethargic...has thrown up several times today...is sleeping most of the time...hardly moving at all.  She stated he is not shivering, etc...so she doesn't feel it is a back issue...she did however state that when she raised his tail (I think he is not having a bowel movement) that he yelped a little.  People on Dodgers thought it may be anal glands, or a back issue or I suggested tummy problems or the flu.

What are you thoughts for Amy and her Oliver???  Do you belong to Dodgerslist?

Thanks Cheryl for you good thoughts to Dolly.  No, I don't belong to Dodger's List but it seems to me that a trip to the vet is in order.  He might be constipated or it could be an anal gland problem.  Just to be sure, I would get him in to be checked out.

Glad to hear Dolly may be headed in the right direction sure hope she is have you tried giving her some pumpkin not the pie filling kind just straight pumpkin I read some where it can help with conspation and help with the runs and best of all it is natural. Just a thought, I also heard they was a dog flu going around ??? Hope Dolly is up and running around soon.

About pumpkin.  In Dolly's case, I have learned that if it is possible, pumpkin comes up oranger coming up and out than going in.  THANKFULLY Dolly never had diahreah  :apls: and she does seem to be pooping pretty good now.  She just seems very weak and seems to sleep most of the time.  I'm attributing that to her body trying to heal and the antibiotics she's on.  The diagnosis seems to be a bad bacteria she ingested in that marrow bone.  Marrow bones are now OFF the menu.

Ohhh Dolly. That was one nasty bone if that is the culprit. Lets hope it is too, and that she gets over it quick with the help of auntie byawtix. It seems the list of things they can have just keeps getting shorter and shorter. I'm sure she'll be happy Dolly again soon,  she sure gave us all a scare!

Have you thought about giving her some Nutri-Cal it comes in a tube high calorie palatable dietary supplement for dogs & cats it has been around for years & years a very good product you can buy it at most pet stores & feed stores. I keep some on hand for Gizmo since she is such a picky eater and so tiny she also has Reflux Disease give her some when she is on one of her not eating binges.Since you feel like Dolly may be loosing weight this should help keep her energy up with out filling up her tummy I usually just stick some on my finger & wipe it on the roof of Gizmo's mouth.
