Title: Have you changed your driving habits due to the high cost of gas?
Post by: MindyKay on August 31, 2005, 08:17:14 AM
Prices in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa metro area have jumped to $2.79/gallon, and one of the engineers reported seeing gas at $3.00/gal.  Lucikly, I filled up yesterday when prices were at $2.59.

I've changed my habits a bit.  I no longer just jump in the car to go pick one thing.  Tonight, I need to run to the church to select and practice my solos, so I'm combining that with a stop at the store, which is on the way.  Fortunately, my mileage to the church, then from the church to the store can be turned in for tax purposes, since I'm not being paid a salary from the church.

One thing won't change, no matter how high gas prices get.  I will still go home over lunch hour to take care of Ozzy.

Since I don't have to go to a job every day I just stay home and do things around the house.  If I do have to go out I do multiple errands in one trip.   I also try to incorporate a mystry shopping job into the mix.  Gas here(MI) is 2.80 plus with premium at over 3.00.  My one aunt could never understand why I divided up the errands I had to do into areas to be done on certain days, I told her it was easier to do all the ones in one area together - guess it was good practice for high gas prices.

I try to keep my work in one location for the day.  So if I have to be at a client, I try if at all possible, to work there all day, so I'm not driving back and forth to the office all day.  We do get reimbursed for this kind of mileage, but the with the gas prices as they are.....

For another example, tonight I am going to the baseball game.  The game is downtown.  I work just south of downtown and I live about 20 minutes north of the stadium.  I'm not going home between working hours and the game.  I'll just stay at work.

I'm not picking where I go based on how far away things are. I'm still going to the same places, but I do try to accomplish more in the same trip when possible.

Gas is almost $3/gallon in San Diego. Drew and I both drive over 30 miles round trip for work every day so it is getting really expensive. I haven't really changed my habits yet, but I think sooner than later I am going to have to really try combining my trips.

I am trying to start my own mobile notary/loan signing business, but it is going to be expensive with gas prices.

Krista, would this be the Dayton Dragons game?  My dad has season tickets.  I hear they aren't doing so hot this season.  I went to a Dragons game a few years ago...it was fun!  Hope you have (or had, depending on when you read this) a good time!  :headbang:

I've decreased the amount of driving I do.  Unfortunately I still drive about an hour a day even if I never leave town.  I have combined trips as much as possible and don't drive all over the place looking for things now.  Gas is over 3.09/gallon here as of this morning anyway.

It's shocking to me how quickly the prices have risen!  On Tuesday I thought about stopping on the way home from work to fill up but was tired and decided to wait until I cash my check tomorrow! Bad decision! On Tuesday it was $2.59, yesterday (Wed.) it was $2.65...today it was $2.75!!!!!!!
And yes, the price of gas HAS changed the way I do things. Normally I saved my errand running for one of my days off and did everything in one day. But now I run my errands on the days I work since I'm in town and then I try to stay home as much as possible on my days off. Which doesn't always work since I like to see my dd and my Mom, friends and grandkids!
I'm thinking that a horse and buggy sound pretty good about now! lol

Well originally I was not going to make any changes, but now it is $2.99 for the cheap stuff (up .40 in 48 hours!).  Also, I saw a bunch of gas stations today out of gas.

Originally we had planned to drive down to the outlet mall (45 minutes south) on Saturday for the Labor Day sales.  Then on Monday, we were going to go to a really big flea market that is an hour and fifteen minutes north of here and is only open on Mondays.  Well, we have decided to keep the mall trip, but give up the flea market.  We will spend the day doing both of my girls school projects instead.
