Currently Penny has been on the Glyco-Fex I as well as the NuVet Plus Multi-Vitamin. My question is what is the difference between Cosequin and Glco-Flex I (the new formula) and which one should she be on? Or should I switch her to Glco-Fex II now that she has had a back problem?
Sorry for so many questions! I have been doing research online but I'm just not sure. :dontknow: Of couse I can ask our neurologist on Friday but want the opinions of Doxie people who are using the products  Thanks again for all the support!
I use the Glyco Flex for both of mine - but need to go look at the number...... I will be interested to see what the difference in this and Cosequin too !
I would like to hear the answer to this too. I have Hallie on Cosequin but according to my vet it doesn't help with the back, just other joints. I personally don't really know the difference though, maybe it would be good to switch to Glycoflex if that helps the back too?
I've been checking online an really haven't found a difinitive answer... :thinik: Hopefully someone on the board might know...
Personally I just use the G & C supplements made for humans you can buy it at any drug store, walmart also Costco and Sam's have good deals on it. I use the double strength formula for Sarah (who has had a ouchy episode) if you are not using it for a acute problem then I would probably go with the single strength - I also use human Vit. C which is a natural antioxident :)

Hey Jen
How was the move? And how is Sarah, has she been 100% since her episode?
Hi Dee Dee,
The move is starting to be a memory things are finding there places bit by bit and the dog yard is coming together they will be putting the fence up sometime this month weather permitting :xfinger: The puppies are 13wks old now so they are keeping me pretty busy - kind of like having a house full of toddlers! ;)
Sarah has had 2 ouchie episodes both were pretty mild just slow walking and a little hunched the last was in Sept. she has recovered 100% from that we are now using Adequan I think perhaps she might have developed some arthritis which could account for the episode in Sept. If they could only talk!?
How is Miss Hallie?

I was wondering the same thing... :dontknow:
For Sarah (who has had ouchie episodes) I give 500 Glucosamine & 400mg Chondroitin I prefer the brands that have HA (Hyaluronic Acid & MSM) added. The brand I am using now is called Flex-a-Min Complete I got it on sale at CVS a few weeks ago (bought 4 bottles) buy 1 get one free. You can use any brand just so long as the mg's are the same Walmart has their own brand that I have used in the past as does Costco. As far as Vit. C for acute injury I would give at least 500mg Ester C. For daily prevention I give Sarahs son Nick the above and 250mg Ester C. The dogs hate the taste of the pills both the G&C and the Vit. C so I just have to shove them down then a small cookie reward as they are too big to hide in anything.
Kari you might want to check into Adequan for Penny it can be given at the same time as steroids. I have a whole bunch of information on it just drop me a email and I will send it to you. HMystDox@aol.com
Hope this helps
Jen
Thanks, for the information, Jen! Dee
I am so sorry to hear that Sarah had another episode. :( But glad she recovered again. I remember you saying you would start her in obedience again in August if she were still fine but I imagine the move didn't leave much time for anything else!
Why are you thinking she might have developed arthritis, isn't she still quite young? And wouldn't arthritis be an ongoing thing, not come and go like that? (or am I about to learn something else to be terrified about lol).
Here's hoping you get the fence up asap! :xfinger:
Dee Dee,
A dog does not *have* to be old to have arthritis - just like humans that have been injured it can develope at the sight of the injury. My other half had knee surgery 10years ago when he was 30 ever since that surgery he has some arthritis in the knee joint especially if he over does it or the weather is cold and damp.
Looks like lots of rain coming don't think the fence will go up this week...I am SO tired of rain ever since we moved here thats all it's done... yuck!
Jen
Oh man! I had not heard of doxies getting arthritis where their back injury was. I guess because it's not a true joint and it's disc material and not a direct injury to the bone itself (I figured it was just the nerves and spinal cord being affected) it never crossed my mind they would get arthritis where they had the problem. I knew that other injuries could cause arthritis at any age, that sucks! Our poor puppers.
What state are you in now? It sounds like Washington LOL. Rain is our middle name too. I hope you get a break and get the fence up, I can imagine it's getting old to potty everyone without a fenced yard! (puppy pictures??? Pleeeze?)
