Thanks for thinking of my husband when he had some interviews a few weeks ago for a supervisory position in the plant he works in. Unfortunately, he did not get that position because someone inside the plant that was more qualified (bachelor's degree) applied for it at the last minute.
He did, however, get offered a promotion to a different work unit, that is also a professional level job. He'll get a raise in pay that will probably bring him back up to the level he was earning before he resigned from the union representation position back in March. He should be working fewer hours too, which will be nice. This should be a stepping stone to the management position that he really wants. He accepted and started immediately, yesterday.
We had to go shopping for new clothes for him last night. He has to wear business casual dress, and he's only worn shorts and T shirts to work for the last 10 years!
Thanks again for the rays, prayers and good thoughts.
How cool! I'm sure it'll take some getting used to wearing khakis and such if he's been wearing shorts and t-shirts! I know it would be a change for me as I can wear jeans and t-shirts to my job. (I don't work with the public though or I'd have to wear something nicer!)
Congrats to you both, maybe it'll be nicer with his new schedule?
Congrats to John. He'll get used to bc clothes (hopefully). Although I'd still rather be wearing jeans and a t-shirt..... Does he still have to work odd hours?
And congrats to Ms Gwen for protecting her family from the invasion.
Thanks Mike...
I just talked to John a few minutes ago and asked him if he was uncomfortable. He said "Just a little bit." What is really funny is that one of his bosses walked right past him and didn't realize who he was at first - the guy did a doubletake after walking past him and it sunk in that it was John.
I'm really making fun of John a bit because he often wore sleeveless T- shirts to work (it is really, really hot in the plant) and is quite proud of his tattoos that are on his upper arms. Now they won't be seen!
Gwen really is very frustrated because she didn't have the joy of showing us her dead trophy this time. I'm sure it will take her a week to leave that spot on the patio alone.
Congrats to John. :hello2:
We are both really hoping that this works out well for him.
Oh and Mike, I forgot to answer your question about John's hours - he does get better hours. He believes his hours will be 6:30 am - 3:30 pm - which is right up John's alley. He is one of those early risers. I'm glad he does not start work at 7:30 because then we'd both be trying to get ready at the same time. That would be a disaster, as I am a grump in the morning and we only have one tiny bathroom.
He's been going in at 4:00am (earlier if working overtime) for quite a long time, so for him, that is sleeping in! :)
Thats good news !!!! Wouldn't we al love to wear jeans/shorts and t-shirts every day ?!?!?!?!?! Dang...I love working on Saturdays - no makeup, no fixed hair and no having to iron clothes !!!
Tell John congrats ! :hello2:
Hey Barb, that's my MO every day: no makeup, no fixed hair (what hair?), and absolutely no clothes that have to be ironed!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Tell John Congratulations!! :hello2:
Congratulations to John on his promotion! :thumb: I bet he'll like his new hours, and that should give you more time together after work.
Congratulations to John on his promotion. :hello2: I've worked at Rockwell Collins for 24 years, wearing business-casual - you get used to it eventually. Except for Fridays, which are "blue jeans" day (unless you have customers visiting your area).
WOO-HOO Glad everything worked out. Fewer hours, more $$ what's not to like????? YAY for you guys.
I too am used to wearing dressier clothes. I went to private school where jeans and shorts were not in the dress code, and I went to private college that also did not permit you to wear jeans or shorts to class. I work in a primarily business casual environment, though full business suits are required for certain events/clients.
I remember at times in the past, we'd meet after I got off work for a quick bite to eat when our schedules were clashing. We'd look pretty funny together when I was wearing a suit and he'd be wearing gym shorts and a T shirt.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes - I've passed them onto John!
Same for Drew and I - he wears shorts and jeans/tshirts every day and I wear dressier clothes! We always look funny together after work!
Not eeeevery day. I wore a polo today. :nana:
Congrats! :apls: on John's new job. That's awesome that he gets to work fewer hours. I hope he don't mind the dress clothes. I can't imagine Frank ever having to wear even dress casual all the time.
