Poll
Question:
Will your doxie partake in your Thanksgiving turkey?
Option 1: Of course! I set a place for my doxie(s).
votes: 1
Option 2: Nope. Don't want to mess with his/her diet.
votes: 1
Option 3: Maybe a bite or two of turkey, and then a special doxie treat.
votes: 17
Since Thanksgiving is next week, I thought I'd post a fun little poll.
I voted although as of last year, I no longer participate in Thanksgiving since my family is gone and it's no fun sitting there watching other people with their families. :( But I voted on what I used to do. I used to bring a baggie of treats with me and set them next to my plate during dinner to feed one by one to Hallie while we ate, I used to get teased they were my croutons.
One year, my last doxie, Jessie, almost died the morning after Thanksgiving from pancreatitis. She didn't get a ton of stuff, I had told everyone what she could and couldn't have and they were very good and I watched her like a hawk but she apparently got enough turkey to make her very ill. I think this is somewhat common after Thanksgiving, the fat content in the skin, etc is high so everyone be really careful with the kids and the treats.
I just never get tired of looking at your avatar! That is one cute doxie belly!

I can relate to your lack of enthusiasm for the holidays. After Domingo died, I did not want to celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas. I tried to get Dan to go see his family for Christmas just so I could spend it by myself and reflect and come to terms with the loss by myself. He wouldn't leave though. It wasn't a feeling-sorry-for-myself sort of thing, I just always have the need to go it "cold turkey" and face the loss and get the pain over with as soon as possible. The pain never goes away very quickly but I do face it. Nowadays, I like to make Christmas fun for my dogs by having stockings for them and giving them presents. The horses get lots of extra treats too.
This Thanksgiving and Christmas will be the first celebrated in our new home! I plan to take lots of pictures.
You forgot CHOICE # 4:
climb up on the dining room table when no one is lookin' and grab the turkey carcass and drag the greasy bones across the house and dive under gramma's bed wit it den bite anyone who comes in da room and eat until ya barf.
love,
Loki
after reading your post and saw that your doxie almost died from pancreatitis the day after thanksgiving I believe that I will not let my doxie eat but, a small amount. Or maybe I will give her skinless chicken or something very lean. See, I lost a doxie two years ago to pancreatitis and it was something awful. I had a hard time with thanksgiving (after I lost my doxie) and now I change my vote.. I will give maggie a little small amount of turkey then a treat. Everyday is Thanksgiving when you have a doxie.....
I remember last year someone posting about a type of dog food that was actually flavored as Thanksgiving Dinner foods. Does anyone remember what brand of dog food this was and where it was found? :thinik:
I changed my vote. Though Chilie will have a place next to the dinner table with her own food, she will go around the table and sit up and beg at everyone!
Loki, Chilie loves your option! :2funny:
Dee Dee, I have that belly photo in a doggy picture frame in our family room. It gets a lot of comments!

That's doubley true at our house. Thanksgiving Day is Clifford's Gotcha Day.
What a great idea for a poll!! Porky will get a little bit of turkey on Thanksgiving but then he'll have to settle for his own food after that. He will get treats too of course, especially since we will be seeing both of his hoograndma's that day. And one of them wants grandchildren so bad, she just spoils Porky rotten. She is always buying something new. Porky may get a little pumpkin that day too. We'll see how many treats are dolled out by then.
This will be my family's first Thanksgiving without my grandfather so it will be kinda rough. But, we'll all make it through. The holidays are gonna be a sad time for us this year. But, we will try and make it happy for the fur kids. Also, my husband's sister is being sent to Tennesee to a mental health facility so it will be hard for them to be apart from her during the holidays also.
