Title: Katie and Joe
Post by: KathyP on November 07, 2006, 09:34:03 PM
Yesterday Jessica and the three kids came out for a visit. Our middle grandson Joe is a true dog lover and he adores Katie! They played and played and had me wishing it was dry and sunny so they could play and play outside! lol
They are a couple of cuties...I have to admit! Joe will be 7 next month. Katie will be 5 months next Tuesday and next Wednesday she goes in to be spayed.
Buddy update...he and Mom are doing well. He is still not thrilled w/ my brother and my son so Mom just puts him in the spare bedroom when they come over and they just ignore him! He has been neutered and even had a couple baby teeth pulled that had not fallen out on their own. So all is fairly well with him!

What a GREAT picture. Those two will be making great memories together and it's great their energy matches each others. I'm sure outside would be better, though. Can't believe how big Katie is getting. She is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm glad Buddy is doing well with your mom. Hopefully he will get used to the guys as he gets older. I still wonder if he is just getting over all the trauma from the Gunny. I also wonder if, in his little doxie head, it was a man that brought that big dog in that messed up his perfect first family. You just never know what their thinking....

Thanks, Teresa! You asked a lot of the same ?'s in your post about Buddy that Mom and I have pondered on. I don't believe that Keith wanted Hemi from the start...which was evident when he jumped on the chance to get Gunny so soon after getting Hemi. Hemi started changing as soon as Gunny came into the house and none of it was for the good. This may take a while.
I'm going over to Jess's this morning to take care of the kids so she can take Keith for a Dr appt. I always insist that they crate Gunny before I get there b/c he is a wild man and I can't handle him and neither can the kids.
Keith fell down the stairs that go to their basement on Sunday. As he fell he tried to turn so he didn't land on his back...in doing so he hit his head twice and landed on his side. He's doing ok but real sore of course. The Dr wants to check him out and make sure he didn't mess up anything in his back. I believe the next house they live in will be one floor not two!

Randy has always been a BIG dog person. When I decided that I really wanted a doxie, he knew that he might need to give in since I had always been agreeable to the bigger animals. Also, Meghan had never had a smaller dog that she could enjoy and really cuddle with (I really used this point to get my way-using the daughter works most of the time!). Once we got Kendall-angel, he was in love also. When we decided to rescue Jeb-angel, Kendall was already a couple of years old. They did great together and one day I plan to scan in the pictures of her laying between his front paws with him grooming her. Even when we rescued Molly and Schatzi was 10 months old, it was with the understanding that we could only keep her if they did well together. It was only fair to Schatzi that she not be tormented or frightened by a large animal that had invaded her space. One advantage she had, was Molly was already as big as she was going to get and she was 5 years old and settled down. My big concern when I read about Gunny was the fact he was a puppy and he would grow fast. I knew it was going to be a problem for Buddy, just because it would be so overwhelming. We still have to calm Molly down if she and Schatzi are playing too rough. They are having fun, but I know that Molly is so much stronger and Schatzi thinks they are the same size-actually Schatzi thinks SHE is the bigger one!
I always say that a dog can tell immediately when someone doesn't like him and that was probably the case with Buddy. Once Gunny was in the picture, he probably felt rejected, especially being a puppy. I'm just really glad that he is where he can get all the attention he wants now and not have to compete for any of it.
I do hope they are planning to take Gunny to class at some point. HE is going to keep getting stronger and if he is out of control, it is not a good thing. Around here, even with Molly well trained, going up and down the stairs can be a challenge. If she wants to get to the top or the bottom first, she can be quite determined and it doesn't matter if you are in her way or not! Most of the time a stern word, BEFORE I start up the stairs will stop her, but that doesn't work every time-especially if food may be involved  The first thing that went through my mind when you wrote that Keith fell, was that Gunny may have tripped him. I hope that wasn't the case. They may really find that one story houses do work a lot better!

I really do appreciate your insights Teresa! I told Jessica when they were going to get Gunny that I thought getting another male puppy, not to mention one that would be much bigger than Hemi, was NOT a good idea. But...ya know...what do I know? lol I'm just the Mom!
I have also told Jessica more times than I can count that she REALLY needs to get him into an obedience class and maybe take Ty, their oldest, with her. Gunny is one strong hunk of dog at five months old...I can only imagine how he will be at 1 year. That concerns me not only with Keith but with the children. Faith is a tiny girl and she has told me that she does NOT like Gunny b/c he bites her and eats her toys.
No, Gunny wasn't involved in Keith's fall...thankfully. After x-rays today we were glad to find that there was no damage done to his back or the hardware...thank the good Lord.
