Title: It's wet!
Post by: Dee Dee and Hallie on November 06, 2006, 12:54:06 PM
We are supposed to get more rain today alone, than in a month. It's the worst flood warnings we have had in a decade, it's been pouring for days straight. The only good side is it's warm! (about 60) we may have a record warm today, usually we'd be pretty cold by now. (I can take about anything but the cold). I am very lucky where I am, in the worst floods we've had since I've been here (over 20 years) my house stays dry, I was not able to go anywhere as it was flooded all around me within a few blocks but at least never right where I am. I am listening to water hitting a bucket in my living room though, I have an old wood stove chimney in my ceiling that stops about a foot down from the ceiling but the cover they put on the top on the roof of it has apparently broken down, so we have a leak. It was hitting RIGHT next to my current commision portrait of 5 dogs that I have been working on for 8 months! I am halfway through the last dog, the water is blackish as it's coming down through old ash, if that had hit the drawing....argh (luckily it didn't). I was just up on the arm of the sofa checking the thing out, stepped down, twisted my ankle, fell on the floor amidst much cussing...Hallie helped by rubbing herself all over my face then grabbing one of her "babies" and brought it over to me squeeking it away. LOL! Interesting what they come up with to destress a situation. I immediately started talking upbeat and playing with her while still sucking air...

Hallie and I almost took off for the ocean yesterday to get photos of the stormy waves for painting backgrounds, thank goodness my senses got the better of me, the highway to the coast is under water in many places. This is not supposed to let up for a couple more days, then just sprinkle but more coming again on Friday.

Here are a few pictures I just took, Hallie shows the right way to weather a storm.  :thumb: In the picture of our back yard, you can see the blue tarp on the lower right of the picture, that is the "roof" to Hallie's covered potty area, there is a big rubber tray with shavings in it, she has to walk the whole 6 feet down her ramp to go under the covered area so she doesn't have to get wet and go in the yard, but she always looks appalled she has to walk THAT far...LOL. :princess:

Hope everyone else getting rain is safe in the floods!

I can't even imagine what 90 feels like anymore LOL. Do you guys stay warm all winter? Wish we could send you some of these rain and you could send us a few degrees for the winter...right now it is raining even harder than in these pictures, it's pouring. Hallie is bored she's used to going and doing stuff every day. I am going to have to teach her how to play Scrabble.  :thumb:

Nebraska will GLADLY take all your rain.  LOL  We have been in high fire danger since...well....um...about three years now.   instead of singing "white Christmas" the last few years, we gave up and sang, "I'm dreaming of a Brown Christmas..." LOL   It is 70 degrees here already and its not even 11 am yet!!   Usually we would be snowy and cold by now.
Hope your rain lets up soon.    please please send it our way.  We'll be nice and share it with Kansas and Oklahoma if you do.

Maybe if the whole state goes outside and blows east, we can get it to move to your area. LOL  :thumb: I do love a good storm like this but it's gone on too long and the flooding is getting really bad. I feel so bad for people who get flooded out and the animals...

It's still pouring out there, I've lost track of how many days. At least it's not cold. Sounds like global warming is in action all over, I can't believe you are at 70 in the morning!

I can only WISH we had a little of your rain.  HOT here today in San Luis Obispo.  We need some FALL weather already.

That picture of Hallie looking out the window is PRICELESS!  Really put a big ol' smile on my face.

Sandi

ps....the last time I emailed you, it bounced.  Do you have a new email addy?

Miss Winnie you have landed with your butt in the butter!!!! Very lucky little doxie girl. We know Miss Harley sent you to her, she knew she needed you bad! We're so glad about that. (congrats congrats!!!)

We also think your Mom should definitely get you a plaid palace!  :thumb: I don't sleep in it but I do love to race in it when I am playing with Mom and dig dig dig then come racing out and dive bomb her then I race back in again. I also have a little "cave" with cheetah spots you can see to the left of me I dont go in there a lot  either unless we are playing. I prefer my bigger bed where I can look out the window (mom had that window installed just for me so I don't have to jump on furniture to look outside. I am sitting there right now barking at the neighbor cat...bet you are wondering how I can do that and type at the same time aren'tcha? Hee!) I have another bigger bed toward the middle of the room with a thick faux fur and another bed under the computer desk where Mom works and another one in the kitchen (although I sleep in the big bed at night with Mom). And still...I sometimes will go from bed to bed and look all forlorn like I cant' decide where to sleep!

YES It is good to be spoiled and we must be very careful not to let our Mom's know we aren't hooman kids...

That was so nice of you to order the shirts!!! Those are all sold out now, and I won't be getting more in so it's good you got them when you did. If you look closely on each shirt, above one of the largest longhair dachshunds there is the name "Hallie". It appears once on each shirt but a different spot each time. Thank you! SO cool to think you were wearing one when you picked Winnie up that makes me feel great!! I am selling out all of the doxie t shirts I have now and just selling shirts and other products off Cafe Press for future. I have a new design I'll attach here that I recently added to my cafe press store. They are finally getting in some colored shirts so there is more than their usual white or ash gray.

Sandi I wish we could send you some of this! I just got back from town and I had to detour all over the place, water is over the roadways all through town. I have a friend in Ventura I don't know how far this is from you but yesterday she said it was 90! I can't even imagine...

Hmmm no my email should still be the same deedeemurry@greatbigisland.com I have had that for a few years now...

DeeDee....

About the Doxie Tees I bought.... Hallie's Name imprinted on them is the FIRST thing I noticed!!!   I thought that was so cool!!! That made them even MORE special to me!!!!  I'm gonna get some L/Sleeve tees to wear under them for the winter!!  GOTTA WEAR 'UM!!
Thanks again... so much!!!!  Tell Hallie I'll be "wearing" her often!!!  :angel4:

That's funny you noticed it on your own MeMe LOL! You obviously have a great doxie eye. I'm so glad you got some before they were gone. :)

Da KING! You are so nice to get your mom a shirt....I have a sneakin' hunch you and your stinky brudder BOTH own and operate her all the time hee hee. Don't tell your Mom but you can find them at www.cafepress.com/injessiesgarden/ There are two sets of these, because I have yet to figure out how to combine them all into one, one has dark colored shirts and one has light colored shirts and everything else. So when you get to the store, click on "Dachshunds" then you will see the top two rows of these designs, one row says dark shirts below it and one doesn't. Ain't that clear as mud! :) If you get stuck email aunt DD and she'll help!

Boy, Hallie...Katie here...dontcha just LOVE the rain??? Wow! I am SO excited! I can trick my Mom into going out since I am still a puppy and she thinks I will piddle in the house! lol Then I just go out and stand in the yard and bite the rain and I'm SO happy!
Mom here...she's right...she DOES trick me into going out just so she can bite the water coming out of the downspouts!! It hasn't rained as much up here today as it did yesterday...thank goodness! In total since Friday we recorded 8.5 in. of rain! Enough, I say!
Here's Katie after a romp in the rain!! She LOVES it!!!

Hopefully Mz Twinkie Angel is looking down from Rainbow Bridge and hears you!
She definitely believed that WET STUFF would melt her tootsies!!  Once my porch steps were redone(with a railroad tie on each side of the gravel path(LOTS of gravel )) she would literally walk the planks(ties) in order to keep from getting her feet wet!!!  So am sure she is sending down lots of wishes and prayers your rain stops!!

LOL Katie is so cute!! Her ears get those little kinks in the rain like Hallie's do. She is sure growing Kathy! Glad you are a little drier up there. It is pouring sheets out there right now, supposed to get a little break tomorrow and Thursday then more rain Fri on. It sure is a wet one for us now but at least we have a little warm!

Keep praying sweet Twinkie girl! Hallie empathizes with her disdain of the wet...I have a covered area at the bottom of her ramp where she can go potty on shavings but with the wind it's even getting wet under there right now. I did get a walk in with her today under the overhang at the mall. SHe had me laughing so hard, she was SO happy to be out she ran as fast as I could hobble with my sore ankle, we went for 30 min and she still wasn't ready to slow down. She is not one to sit at home for a whole day much less 3 in a row, she has to be out doing stuff every day or she gets cabin fever.

Dee Dee, I sure hope that you are safe from all of that really bad flooding.  I've been thinking about you and also Dee and Dave every time I see stories about the flooding up there.  Stay safe....and dry!

Chilie is looking very longingly at the wonderful "doxie level" windows you and Hallie have in your house.  Chilie wishes she had something like that!  Well, I guess whenever we move into our own house, I'll definitely invest in a full-length storm door for the front door! :thumb:

:apls:  Well Dee Dee, according to our weather forecast here tomorrow, it looks like you may have been successful in blowing that rain east!!    It is supposed to rain tomorrow here.  I really hope it does.  I'm glad your rain is supposed to stop tomorrow!  Porky and I made sure to enjoy our beautiful 78 degree weather today!   We spent the entire morning playing on the beach at the lake!

You're right about the global warming thing too.  It is strange to have nearly 80 degree weather in November!! What is going on?!  On this day 27 years ago, my sister was born in between 2 Blizzards!!  Now, it is sunny and hot enough for shorts?!

Kathy, I bet your house smells a lot like wet puppy, huh?
Dee Dee, my first thought when you said that Hallie was running and glad to be out of the house was this... Hallie is thinking to herself "Oh boy, now mommy can do something besides follow me to the water bowl everytime I go to get something to drink"
I'm sure she was glad to get outside
Here in SC we have had the right amount of rain for once. We've had a full day of rain about once a week. This week it was yesterday and boy did we get it. Not so great for the voters, though.
We finally got some fall weather, meaning temps high 50's to mid 60's which I love. Of course, tomorrow and Friday it will be back in the low to mid 70's. I just want Fall to stay around for awhile. It is my favorite season and takes so long to finally get here. The colors have been awesome this year. Below is a picture I took last Sunday at a wonderful park we have in downtown Greenville. I have just started a black and white photography class (and will even use a darkroom, which seems ancient to me), but couldn't resisit taking my digital to capture some of the color. This was actually a week after the peak of the season, but still pretty.
