I opened up my email this morning and saw a message from one of my instructors for my college course I am taking online. When I read it he said he was quite upset and angry at me for not taking the class seriously and posting obscene and nonsensical messages all over the student boards and sending in assignments that were filled with attacks against him. I was so shocked! I hadn't done any of that. I went to the website and looked and sure enough there were hundreds of disgusting posts written under my name! :cussing:
Apparently someone hacked into my classroom account and took the liberty to help me fail the class. This is a required class for me to get my degree. I immediately contacted the instructor and explained that it was not me that had sent those messages and posted those comments. Needless to say, he wasn't convinced and claims that if I don't get all the assignments changed by the end of the week, he WILL give me an F. :BangHead: So..now, I have to figure out how to finish an 8 week course in a WEEK!!! This class just started yesterday! Any ideas what i can do? Besides work my booty off? I have an appointment with the dean of the college tomorrow morning to discuss what my options are. Hopefully this can be resolved so I can take the course like everyone who is enrolled. Some of the assignments are group projects, so it would be impossible for me to get them done in a week!
i have been frantically working all day trying to get done what i can. :runaway: But, I'm sitting here wondering how am I learning anything if i'm forced to rush through it? Any help would be great. I just don't know how to fix this. Apparently the person who did thinks I'm french because of my name. They indicated this by one of their posts, which read. NOT MY WORDS: "All Americans are full of ______, only the French know what's what. _BE-----! I can understand the instructor being angry, but I never posted anything like that. And never would. The quote I posted, was the cleanest one on there!
I'll let you all know how the meeting with the Dean goes tomorrow afternoon.
Do you know someone super good with computers that might track down the real person that did it??? The on line college Administrators should have someone that could do that or recommend someone you should have some recourse to clear your good name???
papbouv
Oh my garsh! I've heard of this happening to others. On another board I'm on, someone hacked in and wrote under other members' names. It was a real mess. Someone who knows computers should be able to track the hacker. I'm sorry this had to happen to you. :dontknow:
Doxielady,
I'd contact the ISD (computer network) person at the college. What this person did was to committ a crime. I'm thinking the ISD person should be able to track at least the ISP address of the person who hacked in.
I agree with the others. I think they should have a way to track the person down. At the least they should allow you to drop this class and take it over until they have an answer. Just assuming that it is you is not the right way to handle it. If they look at any classes you have taken in the past, they should be able to see you have never been a problem before and what kind of student you are. I'm just amazed the professor didn't at least give you some chance to prove it wasn't you. Also, if the college is local, have you taken any classes on campus so some of the professors actually know you and could possibly vouch for you?
I'm interested to hear how this turns out.
The meeting went well. The teacher also attended the meeting and as soon as I walked in, he apologized to me. He said that he wanted to see me in person to know for sure that it was me sending him the frantic message about clearing up my name and not the hacker. He said that is the only reason he was so strict with me and he commended me for immediately contacting the Dean. Mr. Evans said I could finish the course along with my classmates and he would issue a post explaining to my fellow classmates what had happened. I even got 40 extra credit points for everything i did to fix the problem!
They were unable to track the person down. The ISP was fully blocked and there was no way to track them. Whoever did it was a pro. They gave me a new password and user name to protect my account. So hopefully this won't happen again! Also they gave everyone in the class instructions on making your passwords hacker proof. Thanks for all of your comments and support!
Glad to hear that things turned out so well. Sometimes the good guys win.
