Title: One week with the Zs
Post by: David C. on October 23, 2006, 07:07:52 PM
Hard to believe only one week has passed!   It seems like Zora & Zeke have been part of our life for so much longer now, as if they were always here.   There's been some adjustment issues, to be sure, but for the most part, Zora and Zeke are wonderful puppers.

Zeke was having problems jumping up and nipping at Jessica when she runs around, but we were able to extinguish that behavior with the "Can O' Whoop A--".   Otherwise, Zeke is feeling more comfortable in "his" territory and is more vocal about defending it.   His DPS (Dachshund Positioning System) is now calibrated and he can find our home without prompting at the end of our walks.

Zora seemed to be in a state of "doggy depression" (although not bad enough to affect her considerable appetite).   I know she misses Yamisi.  We compensated by giving her extra snuggles and she seems to have responded.  Zora, too, has become more vocal after being nearly silent for the first couple of days.  She has discovered the magic of the "Altar of Food" and waits patiently for its offerings.

It's harder to believe that only three weeks has elapsed since we lost Max.   We really didn't expect to become dog owners (especially with two of them) so soon.  However, the timing of Zeke & Zora's arrival couldn't be more perfect.

It sounds like the Zs (or the ZCs, as Kevin calls them) are settling in nicely.  I know they are in a wonderful home!  Poor Zora, it's so hard to stop loving someone just because they aren't around anymore.  My heart goes out to her.

Glad to hear things are going well with your Z's.  I am sure it is really different than with the older pups. Those youngsters really keep us on our toes!!!!! I am sure Max and Rudy are watching and glad you have them to love till you all meet again.

That is great news that everyone is adjusting well.  Poor Zora, keep giving her the extra snuggles, she deserves it!    I am so happy for all of you to have found each other!

I bet Jessica is tickled with the antics of these younger kids.  I hope they are becoming great friends. Give the Z's a special hug from me.  I know Yamisi must be pleased that her babies have found a wonderful home.  We'd love to hear more stories about them!

I am happy that the ZCs are settling in, and sorry for Zora (who must be missing her first mama!).   Sounds like Zora knows a good manna from Heaven routine when she see it!  It's a good thing the can of WA is working on Zeke!  Are we going to get pictures of all three little Cohens soon?

Hi David.  I was so happy to receive Barb's note saying that you were adopting the Z's!!!  I know it must have been very hard for Yamisi, but knowing her two doxies are "staying in the family" has got to be a big consolation to her.  I know that if I had to give up my three, knowing that they could stay together and be adopted by you, for instance, or by any of our members here, I would feel so much more at ease about giving them up.  I look forward to hearing more about how the adjustment is going.  Do you live close to Yamisi?
