oh my goodness!! I was so scared today. Momma was house cweaning and she got out the big, yellow, noisy machine. I hate dat fing!! Den she turned it on!!!! I took off running to hide in da kitchen but, soon as I hit da slick floor, I felt somefing warm running down my leg! :doah: I hate when dat happens!!! Momma turned da machine off to clean me and the floor up. I was finking i was all calmed down again and den she started it up again, Whoops!!!!!! I dribbled again!!! I have had a hard day wif dat machine. It made me dribble 3 times! Momma wasn't too happy bout that either! Usually I just run away from it and hide under da couch or in da bafroom.
Also another scawy fing happened today. Daddy came home wif a friend, Blake. When dey got here, Blake just opened up the door and came running in! Scared me so bad. I fought he was after my momma! I started barking and growling. Den....he twied to give me a tweat. I wouldn't have it. (Until he left) momma kept telling me he was ok but nobody comes near my momma wifout my permission! Dis is da first time i ever got so protective of momma, but I was worried. Daddy was still outside after all. I had to be da man! Once daddy came in i stopped barking and when dey were ready to leave I was polite and walked dem to da door. I have met Blake before, but only when daddy was around. I fink dats why I got so scared of him today. And dat red hair of his...just irritates me!
Porky seemed especially afraid of the big, bad, yellow vaccuum today. He kept wetting himself every time I would turn it on! He has never done that before. I did have some other noisy appliances running at the time to, so maybe that's what it was? :dontknow: I have also noticed that the vaccuum seems to be scarier to him when its windy outside. Don't get that either. Any ideas how to get him so he loses a little bit of his fear for the vaccuum? Or is he just gonna be terrified of it forever? I am thinking of taking him over to my mother-in-laws during the day when i need to do vaccuuming so he doesn't get so worked up. What do you think would help? I give him treats when he comes close to it while its on, but he gobbles the treat and runs away. Once he feels he's a safe distance away he barks at it. Sorry for the long post. just looking for some ideas to help him out.
Supposedly you leave the vacuum out put treats near it,then put treats on it or feed him with it near by after he is comfortable with it turn it on turn it off just keep up with that till the dog is comfortable with it supposedly it takes time but they ususally get use to it. Patches does the same thing barks at the vacuum I do not mess with her just put her in her crate in the bedroom.Sorry not more help.papbouv
Porky, you poor thing... I know how you feel.. I have been hiding out all day, cuz my daddy was using a really loud scarey souding fing... My mommy told me it was ok, that it was just da sander... Whatever that is... It still sounded big and scarey... And, dat vacuum fing!!! OH I hate that.... It reaaly scares me too... Hugs and kisses from Emmy... :comfort:
Hi, I don't know what it is with that vacuum thing... lol My Boo was scared of it also, as is Emmy... Then today we decided to tear up our dining room floor and get the yucky tile off of the beautiful hardwood floor... My hubby was using the sanders and we never seen Emmy unless it was her potty time... lol I am sorry that I am not more help.... I just let her hide and hope she isn't peeing... lol ~Tara Emmy's Mom
Thanks for the advice about leaving treats on the vaccuum. I'm not convinced it will work though. LOL Porky is terrified to get that close to it, even when its off. I guess i'll just let him hide.
Porky here: Fanks Emmy!!! Gwad I'm not da onwy one scared of dat fing!! What's da sander? It sounds scawy too!!! I hope I never meet one of dose. Dere are lots of fings to be scared of I am finding out. Momma uses this fing on her hair that makes noise AND wind. Woweee i hate dat fing!!!! Wind scares me and so does loud noise. She says its to make her hair look good. I fink her hair looks good wifout dat dumb fings help!

Oh no!! Not da wind machine!! i'm glad I don't have much fur to worry about. All i gotta do is get wet and go play after da baf.
Abbie here - mom actually tried the vaccum cleaner on ME one time, but it didn't go over too well. I was scared of it, but maybe that's 'cause she did it while my fur was still dry. I think she was trying to get all the loose hair out so it wouldn't just fall out later and migrate under the dining room table where it always goes.
Brenda here - I may have to try this again as when I did it, I thought it an insane thing to do. Good to see that someone else has actually done it. :headbang:
I never bought a dog drier have an old Oreck canister type vacuum it blows air and sucks up stuff I like it because it only gets warm from the motor not like a hair dryer that gets too hot for dogs.Gizmo has a single coat being a Papillon and pink skin very sensitive so the old vacuum works great just put her on a dinning room chair in front of me and dry her she has such a heavy coat we have to stop and let the vacuum cool off then start up again in about 20 minutes.Patches hates it but I just hold her firmly and dry her anyway she can get glad the same way she gets mad in my book, I'm the Mom and we all do things in their best intrest so I guess I'm a mean Mom but usually all is forgiven with my homemade dog treats. They got a break today decided to put FrontLine on everyone just got new carpet do not want any little critters taking up house keeping in it so may do the baths on Friday.
