1. Where do you live? I live in Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville is in the Northwest corner of the state, near the foothills. We are about 40 minutes from Hendersonville, NC and the NC mountains. If we want to see the ocean, we only have about a 4 hour trip to Charleston or Myrtle Beach!
2. Spouse? Significant other? On November 28, I will have been married to Randy for 25 years. It is hard to believe it has been that long. I still remember the day we got married and it just doesn’t seem that long ago.
3. Children - how many and ages. We have one daughter, Meghan. She will be 22 on November 14 and is a senior at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville Tennessee. She will graduate in May with her Bachelors of Social Work degree. Right now her plan is to stay in Nashville and attend University of Tennessee and get her Masters of Social Work Degree. At least she is only 6 hours away from us and Nashville is a great place to visit!
4. What do you do for a living? I’ve been working as a dental hygienist for the last 25 years (it’s hard to believe I’ve been doing that for so long, also).
5. If you dare.....your age and describe yourself ! I’m 45, 5’6 and pleasantly plump, at least right now (I’m back to working on the weight loss thing again) I have brown eyes and brown hair, though it now has a good bit of gray in it. I’ve learned to hide the gray quite well. I take turns blaming Randy and Meghan for the gray that I have!
6. What is your dream car/vehicle? Color? Saab 9-3 convertible in Fusion Blue Metallic. Red would be nice, but Randy always claims red!! (It’s the firefighter in him)
7. Other than your passion for dachshunds, what are your hobbies? READING, rubberstamping, cardmaking, crocheting, photography, swimming.
8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to go to Alaska, which Randy and I hope to do next year. I also would love to visit Austrailia. At some point I am planning to do a mission trip with our church to Swaziland in Africa. I want to wait until Meg is through with school and can go also.
9. Do you collect anything? Anything firefighting related. This started right around 9-11. We had gotten a few things from the FDNY website, and already had a couple of things that Randy would pick up at conventions. Then it escalated. I now have a Christmas tree that has Santa firefighters, dalmations, firetrucks, etc. on it.
10. Favorite Food/ Favorite junkfood. Anything Italian. Favorite junkfood-Oreos! This is dangerous because my brother works for Nabisco!
11. Favorite Movie- Big Fat Greek Wedding. Also Kingdom Come with Whoopi Goldberg. If you haven’t seen it, this movie is HILARIOUS!
12. Favorite Color- Coral or Turquoise.
13. Favorite Song/Artist- That changes all the time. I love Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and Martina McBride. I had gotten away from Country music for awhile, but with Meg in Nashville, I’ve gone back to it.
14. Tell us a funny story about yourself. I’m going to have to think about this one.
15. What is the most exciting thing you have ever done? Giving birth to Meghan and watching her grow. We had been told that we would not be able to have any children and then 3 weeks later, I was pregnant. My doctor’s response was “You’ve shown that doctor’s don’t know everything” She was truly my miracle child, and sick as I was, I stayed excited the whole time I was pregnant!
16. If you won the lotto, what would you do with the money? Build a new house with a wonderful mountain view and lots of play area for the doxies, because Schatzi would have a few friends. Donate a large portion to rescue. Make sure Meghan was taken care of and could start out her adult life completely debt free with a place to live, etc. Help those who have a lot less than I do.
17. What are you most proud of? Having my daughter and seeing the adult she has become so far and is continuing to become. She is a good student, not an excellent one, but above average. More than that, she has a heart of gold and the sweetest spirit of anyone I know. She will do anything for anyone, and I think the Social Work field will be lucky to have her. Often Randy and I look at each other and say “How did we do that?” We then realize that God had a lot more to do with it than we did.
18. Any other tidbits about you that you would like to share? Come on.....
About 12 years ago I took a break from working fulltime for a year and went to school to become medical sonographer and do ultrasounds, but even though I finished all the classes, I had to have surgery and was unable to get in all my clinical hours. The next year they didn’t offer the course, and after that it became a full time program and I would have had to completely stop working to complete it. I enjoyed learning all that I did and would have loved to have combined the two careers, but I absolutely LOVE the office I’m in now and plan to stay there until I retire. Now I just enjoy watching everyone’s ultrasound videos and telling them what they are looking at!!!
First 4 pictures...
Meg and I at our downtown historical park this past Spring. Greenville has recently done a huge revitalization of this part of downtown. One part of it was closing a street a removing a bridge that blocked the view of the falls in the park. They then had a walking bridge designed and built that is absolutely incredible. It is the only one of it's kind in the US. You get a beautiful view of the falls when you are on it. This park has people in it all the time now.
Meghan and Randy this past summer in Chattanooga
Meghan, my neice Lauren who is 10, and my neice Allison who is 10 months. They are my three girls and I love them all dearly!
The two four legged ones. On this day they were competing for the treats Randy had.
The rest of the pictures. The first two are of the historical park, showing the cantilevered pedestrian bridge and the falls. The last two are of my Christmas tree showing the Fireman Santas and the dalmations. As you can see we also have the Firefighter GI Joe that is always underneath the tree and sometimes the Firefighter bear. He is usually there just for pictures since Schatzi really thinks she should take his stuffing out!
Happy POD, Teresa! I hope the humans and doglets in your life spoil you rotten on your special day. Another reader - and have you noticed how many of us are around 5'5" to 5'6" tall? Great pictures, and congratulations on your day!
I noticed the height thing too. Weird... Anyway, Happy POD. Glad you remembered! :thumb: I enjoyed reading about you. Your anniversary is on my husband's birthday!! I'll be sure and wish you a happy anniversary that day since it will be easy for me to remember.
FireFIGHTER not FireMAN ! (http://www.coolsmileys.net/jobs/fireman.gif) Boy did I notice that ............. I collected FireFIGHTER things for 37 years !
And I was an avid rubber stamper ..... just gave everything to my daughter-in -law ( because it is one of the things I can't do after the broken neck)
I enjoyed your pictures and write up. Happy POD
When I was writing up my POD last night and kept typing fireman, I thought "Randy will give me such grief for this". But it was late and I never got back to change it! He reminds me that a FIREMAN is the person who would shovel the coal on the trains to keep them going, or something like that! I've just gotten into the rubberstamping stuff, and it can be addictive.
I think it is interesting how many of us read, also. Now it would be interesting to see how many of us like to read the same type of stuff.
Great write up, Teresa! It's fun to learn about other crazy dachsie hoomans.
