Title: Its my POD 10/16/06!!!
Post by: doxielady5569128 on October 16, 2006, 03:27:45 PM
1. Where do you live?:  At a Lake in Nebraska

2. Spouse?  Significant other?:  Justin, married since May 7, 2005. We dated from age 16 so we were high school sweethearts.  Our first date was his 16th birthday, since I am five months older, I had to pick him up.

3. Children?:  Not yet, just Fur kids.  Porky-born April 9,2005,
     Peter- born April 1, 2005, and the late Petunia-born April 1, 2005.
      (Porky is our only dog.)

4. What do you do for a living?:  Currently in college for accounting, a Homemaker, and I teach a preschool ballet class twice a week.   I also do a lot of volunteering with people and animals.

5. If you dare, your age and describe yourself?:  I am 24, 5’5”, (well if we wanna be exact, I’m only 5’4 and ½” tall) blonde, brown eyes, and 110 pounds.  Most people mistake me for a 16 year old because I look younger than I really am.

6.What is your dream car/vehicle?  Color? :  1967 Mustang fastback fully restored.   Red of course.

7. Other than your passion for dachshunds, what are your hobbies?:  Crocheting, Crafts, Embroidery, Quilting, Photography, Hiking, Swimming, Singing, dance,  Cross-stitching, Mainly anything where I can work with my hands.  I also like animals of all types, Including frogs and yes…..some snakes.   I also love reading!!

8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?:  Its hard to just pick one place for this one.   But…if I only can pick one, I would pick Sweden, because my dad’s side of the family is 100% Swedish and I would like to see if I could find any remaining houses, tombstones, etc…of my great-great’s from there.  Also I would like to go there to do more research about how his family’s name changed when they came to New York, from Anderson to what it is now.

9. Do you collect anything? Not really, I do get a teddy bear collection started every year so I can donate it to a women’s shelter at Christmastime.

10. Favorite Food/Favorite Junk Food?:   hmmm…..I love all food, but my favorite would have to be Mustard Glazed chicken. Favorite junk Food, definitely has to be Popcorn or Chocolate.

11. Favorite movie?:  I have so many favorites, it would take me forever to list them all!!   I love movies.

12. Favorite Color?: Blue

13. Favorite Song/Artist?:  I like all types of music so this one’s hard to pick too!   My favorite right now is Soren Wohlers, he’s a guy from Nebraska and my husband’s, best friend’s, cousin.

14. Tell us a funny story about yourself?:  I have a lot of those too.   On my wedding day, my uncle’s held true to one of our family traditions.   The uncles (my dad’s brothers) kidnap the bride and take her to a different location and leave her there until her groom finds her.   My uncles kidnapped me and the wedding singer (my friend Bill) and took us to the grocery store in my hometown.   Since we knew we would be in the store a while, Bill grabbed a large package of toilet paper for me to sit on and also found one for himself.   Keep in mind I come from a very small town.   As were sitting on our toliet paper a man walked by and stared at us for the longest time.    So…Bill piped up and said, “What’s the matter?  Haven’t you ever seen a Bride run away with her wedding singer and take a break at the grocery store?”   :2funny:  The guy laughed and walked away.  Shortly after there were some little girls staring at us.   And Bill said, “The princess is here giving autographs today, would you like one?”  the little girls asked their mom for a piece of paper and a pen and I signed it for them. About 10 minutes later, we had a store full of little girls wanting an autograph from the real life  princess.  The newspaper even showed up to take a picture of the line and chaos we had inadvertently started!    :doah:

15. What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?: Getting married. And,  I Had a roommate in college from Japan.  The language barrier was very difficult to get past, but we ended up being great friends.  She even joined me and my family for Thanksgiving that year.   The funniest thing about it was trying to explain all the sayings and slang words we Americans have.   For example: Cool, was a very difficult expression for her to understand, she would take the literal meaning and get so confused.  Most nights in our room, were spent going over the different meanings of words and expressions.   Poor girl walked out of class when someone said “Get Out!”   Thinking they meant for her to leave.

16. If you won the lotto, what would you with the money?  If it were a lot of money, I would buy my grandma a house closer to us so we could take care of her, I would buy my parents and my husband’s parents a house.  I would buy my sister a building so she could fulfill her dream of starting her own preschool.  And then…I would build a huge doxie farm and donate to the ASPCA.

17. What are you most proud of?:  I am most proud of  the volunteer work my husband and I do at a youth center in my hometown.

18.  Any other tidbits about yourself that you would like to share? Come on…:  When I was little, I was quite the tomboy. I was known for catching frogs, bugs, and all sorts of other creepy crawlies.  (except spiders!)  My favorite thing to do was to go to the race car track with my dad once a week and watch football with him.  I still like football and force my hubby to watch it with me!  He hates it, people tease us that we are backwards that way since I love sports and my husband doesn’t.

Also…in preschool, I worked through all the workbooks my teacher had in one year, (by accident!)  The teacher taught preschool-second grade.  On the first day of school, she handed us our workbooks and said, “Work on your workbook till your done.”  Meaning work until you were done with that page.  I understood it as doing every page!!   So…for months, I missed playtime because I would keep working on page after page while our teacher got snacks ready.  By Christmas, I had finished the workbook for preschool and kindergarten.   I handed the workbook to my teacher and she asked, are you done, my answer?  “Yep.”  She looked at the page every one else was working on in my class and saw that I had done the next page too.  She kept looking and saw I had finished the whole book.  She then had a meeting with my parents about whether or not to start me on the workbook for first and second graders.   They ultimately decided to, and since I finished it too, I had to got to public school the next year so I would have work to do. (It was a country school)  The woman who was the teacher at the country school still teases me about being so literal when I was in preschool! :2funny:

Now, The pictures:

1. My sister and I in South Dakota during a family reunion…Do we do a good Vanna White impression or what?!   (I’m the short blonde one by the way…)
2. The second one is also of me and my sis.
3. Picture of  Thunderhead Falls in South Dakota
4.Picture of a deer standing by my grandpa’s tractor in Wyoming.  (in their backyard!)
5.Picture of the fur kids. (including Petunia)
6.Picture of my “baby” brother and the wiener that started it all for me,  Bandit…AkA..”Bander Bee”,   By the way, my brother was 6’0” tall which why I had a hard time taking his picture!! (This was taken  a year and a half ago. My brother is now 6’5”!)
7.The last one is a picture I took of the fires this summer near Chadron, Nebraska. ( my favorite picture I have taken so far.)

Hope you enjoy, sorry it got so long!!!

Interesting write up! The pictures are great too. I like the big tan markings on Bandit, he looks like a young Linus (an old board members doxie who had those pretty markings too). Porky is so cute with his kitty. Is he feeling 100% again now? That last windmill picture is beautiful too. Always fun to be able to put faces to names here. I just realized I don't know your name other than Porky's Mom!

LOL  I did forget to post my name. OOPS!   My first name is Amorette.  Pronounced just like its spelled.  It is a french name which means  little love.  Which my mom says was quite fitting since I was born very small!   By the way...don't worry if you spell my name wrong, I won't hold against you.  I promise.  You can keep calling me Porky's mom too if ya want.  Either way.

Yes...Peter is doing 120% now. LOL  He is already outside hunting like crazy!   gotta make up for those few days he missed I guess.  He is also being really good and coming up to the house to get his dose of antibiotics twice a day.  He scrathes on the back door to let me know he's out there and then patiently waits for me to give it to him.   He licks it right out of the dropper.

That is a pretty and unusual name. Don't feel bad, I've gone all my life with people spelling my name wrong too. I'm glad Peter is feeling back to himself. Is Porky all better too?

Yes...All the animals are doing well right now.  Which is quite rare for us.  It seems we always have one hurt or sick.   That's why we put the vet on speeddial.   God has surely blessed us with the most accident prone pets.  :2funny:

Happy POD!  Great piccys & write up!

I'll second DD's comments about the tan markings.   Having gone from two solid reds with Rudy & Max to a chocolate/tan and blue/tan with Zora and Zeke, I'm only now beginning to notice the differences dachsies have in their tan markings.

My first car was a (1st year for the fastback) 1965 mustang fastback.  It was aqua blue in color. I will have to post a picture if I ever find it.

I didn't find mine but this is what it looked like.
