Title: Regis update
Post by: Kathy on October 13, 2006, 04:03:55 PM
Regis is doing much better.  He is moving around, eating like a doxie, and he even is doing his happy dance after he eats. The Vet called me and said that Regis’s blood work came back and everything looks great. He gave me a big scare the other day.  I was almost sure that it was his time. I am so happy that it wasn't.   I think one or all three of our other dogs ran into really hard.  They play and don't even watch out for Regis.  We try to keep Regis out of there path but sometime it is impossible. I guess that is the life of owning four weiner dogs.  Thanks so much for the rays they worked, and I think Regis will make it to his 14th birthday.

I am so glad to hear he is on the mend!  You sounded like you didn't have much hope the other day, but these little guys have such strong will that they can surprise you.

Welcome to the "old age" rollercoaster.   Senior dachsies have their moments when it looks like their conditions go into a tailspin.  Just when you think it's time to send them to the Bridge, the rally and start acting like themselves again, although they weren't quite at the level they were at before the drop.   The rollercoaster episodes will eventually become more frequent, and the dips even deeper, until you finally get to the end of the ride.   If this was the first of these events, I'd say that Regis probably has a good amount of living still left in him.   The first roller-coaster events with my boys were about six months apart, and then became more frequent until, in my Max's case, they were weeks apart.  Of course, Max was over 17 1/2 when the ride finally came to an end.   Just be patient and give these seniors lots of lovin', they'll let you know when the ride is over.
