My husband was getting ready for work this afternoon when we heard a really mournful yowling outside. When we looked out we saw our cat Peter limping horribly and his back leg swelled up twice its normal size. I brought him in and looked him over and saw a hole in his back leg and splinters all over in his skin. I rushed him to the vet and they had me drop him off for the night. Right now, they believe he was attacked by another cat earlier this morning. They said they will put him on antibiotics and keep him overnight to watch him. They also said that they will have to slice open the absess on his leg if the swelling has not gone down by tomorrow morning. Looks like Peter will be back in the house for a few days till his leg heals. Please send rays that absess will open on its own and our lovable Petey will not be in too much pain. i will post tomorrow to update everyone on how he is doing.
We also have not seen our baby cat, that Peter is Papa to, all day. We are wondering if she was attacked too and killed, or if she did the attacking. We have looked around for her since we got home for the vet and can't find her anywhere. We called the game warden and asked him to keep a lookout for her along with our neighbors. We had to end our search for the night because it started to snow lightly and is very cold!!!! So..please send rays that if she is hurt somewhere we will find her before its too late or that she will show up at home and be just fine!
I have been in tears since i saw Pete's leg. He was in shock when we found him from the pain and trauma of the injury. He sat quietly while we examined it and did not cry out at all. He did knead me with his claws quite a bit which told me he was in a lot of pain. I almost feel like there should have been something I could have done to prevent him from getting hurt like this. He lives outside because he is happier there, but i feel like if we would have kept him inside it never would have happened. i'm sorry for the long post. I am also praying that the wound does not get infected. My husband and I have discussed that if Peter will have to lose his leg, then we wil put him down. We know he would be miserable living in the house and not being able to run and play like he loves. please send mega healing rays to our Petey.
Gee I hope Petey does not loose his leg but if you watch Animal Planet cats do well with three legs will be thinking of you all and hope all goes well.

I honestly don't think he will lose his leg. I am really hoping he is doing well at the vet's tonight and can come home tomorrow. I am still worried about the wound getting infected, but i think we would be able to catch it really quickly if it did. Thanks for you encouraging words though. I know cats and dogs do just fine with only three legs. I just would hate to see that happen to my Pete. if it does we will bring him into our home or may have to find him a new home. (The reason we moved him outside was because I am very allergic).
