Title: Doctors Foster and Smith Catalogue
Post by: MindyKay on October 11, 2006, 02:30:04 PM
I got the neatest catalog for dogs and cats in the mail today.  Has anybody ordered from this outfit?  I'm thinking about ordering Ozzy's heart and bug protection medications from them because I'm tired of having to run to the vet (and pay the vet's prices).

Of course, I might order a treat or toy for Oz as well

I just got my catalogue from them today as well !!  I absolutely love their products and have been wanting to order stuff from them for a while.  We just never seem to have the time to get it done.   Imy best friend orders all her grooming supplies and pet supplies from them and has never had a problem.

I confess I really really like them!!   I am happy to say they are located in Wisconsin and we have visited them many many times.  Merion has gone up there with me a couple times.   I MUST also confess  that was when I found out my precious Twinkie angel was a shoplifter!! As I was looking at clearance shelves she spied a rawhide flippie chip(they are about the size of a potato chip).  She would NOT let go!! There were 2-3 sales clerks in there laughing almost hysterically at us. ( We went  up there to get Twinkie  a kennel aire crate.) I was not sure what size to get.   she finally went into the crate after I DID wrestle the chip away, and tossed it in the crate(the clerks had said don't worry, she found it, its hers!!)

She sorta waddled out that trip.   As the clerks took turns handing her treats saying to the other clerks"remember only ONE treat to a dog!"  about a minute later another clerk would come up handing her another and giving her another treat!  I know she had to have had at least 15 treats before we left!!

We have ordered a couple times  and other times go up there to shop.  One time I odered all the BIG DRAGON toys they had left(they had a dozen(the person on phone sent someone to find out exactly how many there were...this was years ago...before places could just search on a puter).  They must have a really good return policy because when we have gone up there, we have gotten fantastic deals on returns.  Merion and I still have doggy couches that I think cost us $8 each when the regular price was something over $60!!

One time Twinkie kept trying to head into the back room(door said employees only!!).  A lady from management came out and  Twinkie of course went over to make friends.  She said, Oh, I bet she smelled this and wanted one.  There were bags of pig ear slivers.  She asked if it was OK for Twinkie to have one, and I said yes. So the lady opens a new bag and gives her one.  I think that was also the time when we left, the lady says, here let me fix her up a little doggy bag to go.  She gave me a gallon zip lock baggie and that was quite full of treats!!

It is located in Rhinelander, WI.  It is owned by two vets who I believe still have an animal practice up there.

Sadly last year they stopped doing their annual Labor Day Warehouse clearance sale. Before that for about 5 years I went up the last day and more or less stuff my van to the gills.  Then took the goodies to our local animal shelter.    One year I ended up with FIVE CASES of rawhide(these cases each probably at least 100 packages. ) Another year I had one regular grocery cart heaped to the gills, and started a 2nd cart that had among other things TWO large plastic crates.  That time it was literally the end of the sale... the guy who was going around making deals just says "make an offer"  I had sorta heard part of that with some other customers. I assumed we would dicker so I said $10.  He said OK.  I said, do you understand I have TWO shopping carts here. this is all my stuff. He said yup!  I sorta felt so guilty, but I knew it was going to a good cause!  I think that year the animal shelter got well over 100 collars, and lots of dog and kitty toys!!  That year when I was unloading at home I realized that in addition to all the huge bags they even sent along one of their warehouse bins(you know the ones that are big like recycling bins!!)  that time I think 2 people were helping load my van!! One year I ended up with FIVE huge trash bags full of dog and cat toys!!

By the way,   if anyone wants to check it out, they do have a web site.  They also have a site called peteducation.com that has all sorts of good info on animal health, etc. you can get there really from their regular web site.
Their web site is:
