Title: rescue
Post by: roisinmarie on October 01, 2006, 01:57:03 PM
one day i was looking up a local advertisement paper as i was after anther dashie i wanted a female long haired. and there were 2 standards one female on male long haired and i rang. the man on the phone was a local breeder in ireland and he told me they were rescued the female was gone but the male was still their my mom and i went to see it my sister wanted it i wanted a mini as i already had a mini she wanted a standard when i walked in this really long skinny black and tan was sitting in the corner. i got down on my knees and he come over and licked the face of me. i loaded him into the care and brought him home to my sister, his name was paddy. he was 2 and a half years old. and elderly couple bought him and his sister when they were puppies and they had them as out door dogs in a shed. why would you buy a dashie to lock them outside but that's not the point. one of the owners died as they were elderly the woman couldn't cope and she stopped feeding them and all and left them in the shead in their own excerment. when the breeder eventually offered up $400 she gave them back. he had to shave off their long coats and try and nurse them back to health before he could sell them. i am not saying it was easy paddy is afraid of bags your not allowed to cuss infront of him and he has a bit of a temper to the little mini then i know my little mini would try the patience of a saint. but apart from that we had him toilet trained in a month and he kisses all the time. and the other day he actually played with me for the first time he doesn't like playin with humans probley because the owners never played with him. but for a dog who spent his life in a shed lies with all fours in the air sleeping his little head of. and he brought a new meaning of dash kisses around my home. the reason i told this story is because if you ever are buying a dash look for the rescue ones first the little ones that needs a home because they are the most grateful loving wee dogs you could ask for :angel12: :angel13: :blob7: :walk2: :director: :clown: :occasion17: :toothy9: :grouphug:  :pile:

You are so right. Although they may have some trouble adjusting at first, there is absolutely nothing that will warm your heart like adopting a rescue.  Thanks for your story.

You have a generous heart and made a special life for the little guy, I think that's wonderful.

I also have a rescued little red daxie name "Biscuit". She was rescued from a terrible puppy mill. She was pregnant, so skinny you could see her backbone, had eye infection, never been out of a cage and was absolutely terrified. We adopted her and fostered her pups for 8 weeks and then found them good homes. She sees one weekly. Biscuit has come a long way, she is beautiful and so loving now, she also gives me kisses constantly.

I can only hope more people help out needy animals that need a forever home.
