14. Tell us a funny story about yourself.
The year I graduated from High School, My dad decided to take my friends & me up to the camp at the Peshtigo Preserve in the Nicolet Forest for a weekend. Cathy, Sue and I decided we didn’t want to stay in the cabin by Dad and his friends. We wanted to stay in the little cabin across the road and up the hill about a distance of 4 blocks or so away. :badidea: We were in the northwoods and way back in the preserve. They had locks across the roads about 6-8 miles out from where we were, so no one could get in that didn’t belong. None of us had ever camped or anything before.
Of course we gabbed and goofed around till maybe 12 or so and then decided to go to bed. Then we realized there was no lock on the door. Oops!! :idea1: Ok so we will barricade the door. We stacked chairs and tables and anything we could by the door then we realized that it opened out so we piled the chairs, etc against it so if any one opened it everything would come down on them. Then us “chickens” fastened all the windows and if they wouldn’t lock we stuck a knife in the track so they wouldn’t open. There was one window that we couldn’t do that to in a hall way had the wash stand in it (no running water and outhouses) so we found about 30 or so shot glasses on the shelf :idea1: OK let’s put them on the floor"if anyone comes in they will fall on them and we can get away. :runaway:
Off to bed we go and of course we were still talking for a while. Then we heard a noise outside :shocker: and then we heard a louder noise that seemed like it was right out side the wall. :bolt: Suddenly all three of us we all in the bottom bunk bed together. :grouphug2: Every once in a while one of us would fall asleep for a bit and then wake up again. I am not sure how long we stayed there but finally it was just starting to get light out and we could see there was nothing outside so we crawled in our beds and slept.
We thought we heard my dad calling us about 8 or so we all jumped out of bed to put everything away. We didn’t want them to know we were chickens. Dad said the next morning they had seen some deer headed across the road toward us during the night. Had we heard them? :angel4: Nope we must have been sound asleep we didn’t hear anything!!! Yea right. :wink3:
It was many years before I ever told my dad what had really happened that night.

I love it Merion! Especially the pictures!!! Your camping story is a riot. Interesting, almost everyone so far has said if they won the lotto they would have a doxie sanctuary and all the doxies they could get. :angel4: I sure hope someone here wins the lotto!!

Cool write up, Merion! I also loved your camping story...and how is sister Nancy? It doesn't always hold true, but have you noticed how many of us are voracious readers? Maybe it's the dachsie snuggling time afforded by sitting still for a while?
Happy Person of the Day Merion !!! Loved the write up and all the pictures......I love your "gangster" picture !!!! I cracked up at your camping story - too funny !!!! Thanks so much for sharing your life with us !
I looked but couldn't find the picture of us smoking in the car. I know there is a small book with wedding pictures in it but it wasn't with the rest of the albums. If I find it I will post it. Years after we got married and I was working at the insurance company one of the girls was talking about a wedding at St. James and there were all the old cars and they took pictures of them. I had her bring them in .....it was our wedding :2funny:. We really got a kick out of that.
My dogs and I keep trying ( I play their birthdays--need to figure out how to add Zena into the mix). I keep saying they are going to win us the moterhome for the dog shows.
Merion & the ZZ's
I know alot of us read. I just need to find a way to sell the old ones to buy new ones. :chairfall:
Nancy is doing well. She comes here to get her doxie fix since she still doesn't have a pup.
Merion & the ZZ's
I love the (http://www.dreamsignature.com/sigs/sigs_mood_091.gif) (http://www.dreamsignature.com) pictures and the old car.
I bet I know the words to all your favorite songs (but I can't remember what I did yesterday)
And of course we LOVE your doggities !
I should admit that at 24 after we got married and for a few years I was still a chicken. When Jeff started driving truck and I was home at our house in the country by myself (nearest neighbor was about 2 blocks up hill or 2 downhill ) I had to get to sleep before it got dark at night or I would stay awake till it began to get light in the sky. We had 3 dogs at the time who would have barked their heads off but of course then they would have shown the burglars where everything was :2funny:.
Now I would love to be out in the country and away from neighbors. We get better as we get older I guess!
Merion
Great writeup! Thanks for sharing the stories and the pictures! I love all of the Z names!
Hi Julia!! I dont seem to have time to get here and read the posts very much!! Also to be honest I dont quite remember how to get to the chat on saturdays any more!!
Side comment here, Merion forgot to say i with there to in the camping episode!!!
That was a fantastic place to visit, really up in the north woods!!! And yep we were a wee bit nervous...terrified is probably closer. I still remember us pushing this huge ROUND table against the one door, ONLY to realize...oops the door goes out not in. So then we Were rigging some stuff so if anyone got THAT door open a bunch of nasty stuff would crash on them!!
I certainly agree to on the reading. Think one of the greatest gifts we got from Mom was a love of books!!
My dream job was always some strange combination of book, craft, and coffee store!!! Have not quite figured out yet how to work the doxies in too!!
Wonderful write up!! What a wild story about your camping trip. I did Demos a couple of times. They were a lot of fun.
