I just talked to the vet, she had a good night and can come home this afternoon :hello2: She does not need surgery but will need about 3 to 4 weeks of crate rest which will be difficult for her as she is an active doggie who likes to be in velcro contact with her dad :heart:. The worse part will not being able to sleep on the big bed. So please keep sending those rays to little Skeetie, we have confidence she'll make a complete recovery. Thanks, Kevin & Jeri & Boone.
Thats great news !!!! Guess dad will have to set up a cushion by the crate.... LOL !!!! Crate rest does wonders - will she take meds too? Maybe you can set the crate up on something level to the bed - so at least she can touch your fingers. Rays and prayers on the way for a smooth recovery. Let us know when she gets home !!!!
Yes, she will have to take steroid medication to help control inflammation. And yes, I might be spending some nights on the couch next to her (not that our doggers are spoiled or anything). Thanks for your concern, and keep those rays a-comin'.
That's some good news for Skeeter. I know all about sleeping "outside the box". I spent almost a year sleeping in the living room on a futon mattress on the floor so Clifford could touch me (and vice versa) during the night. Hopefully Skeeter will recover as well as Clifford did.

That's great news and thanks for the update Kevin. Having just gone through the 6 weeks of crate rest and restriction with Hallie (I got more lenient as the weeks went on but in the beginning was really strict) I know it is NO fun. It really can work wonders though, just keep strong and don't let those big brown eyes talk you into letting her out early. We were able to not miss a night in the big bed because I put a 48" tall X Pen tightly around it, every morning I'd wake up groggy, thinking what the heck...am I in a crib? Hang in there with her I'm sure she'll do great.
So glad that surgery isn't needed. It's rough on everyone. Like everyone else has said, be very diligent about the crate rest and she will get better. A little lap time would probably be OK as long as she wasn't allowed to move around/get down.
skeeter with dad close at hand at least breakfast should come a tad faster.
Kidding aside I'm glad Skeeter is on the mend.

Sorry we missed the original post! Sending mega rays Skeeter's way. A tough little one like Skeeter should have no problem getting back to herself. Where Poldie always had that quiet internal toughness (not unlike our own Max), Skeeter always exudes toughness (maybe that's why her and Rudy got along...he was the same way).

Looks like I missed the earlier post too. Sorry I'm late. I sure hope Skeeter is continuing to improve.
Skeeter, has now had 3 weeks of crate rest. After the first week of many sleep-challenged nights, I took Dee-Dee's example and let Skeetie sleep with me on the big bed in the guest room. She has never shown any proclivity to jump from this bed, and I am a light enough sleeper to catch her if she would make any move to do so. We were both much happier campers as Skeetie only had to get up to go out about twice a night rather than the 5 or 6 times during the nights spent "sleeping" in her crate. I think she really just wanted to be closer to daddy. She moves a lot better, and shows no signs of pain or compromised movement. It looks like a full recovery is in the works. Like most dachsies she wanted to get out and run around, along with trying to jump up on things. We were able to keep it to a minimum, but there were some exciting moments. We have been giving her a bit more freedom in the past few days to move around or sit on laps (carefully lifted up and down of course) when Jeri and I can supervise her. We will continue to keep her under close observation, and she will stay in her "play-pen" during the day. Skeeter says thanks for all the rays and prayers and so do we!
