Well, it's not quite a real barkday, but at this point, we consider half-barkdays milestones, too. Max is now 17 years and 6 months old...halfway to 18. He's hanging in there. Max has his good and bad days.

His latest thing is that he needs to get up in the middle of the night to go pee. I've been waking up between 4:30 - 5:30 AM to let him out. I have to watch him, because in the darkness he gets disoriented and wanders around trying to find his way back to the deck.

Max is eating, we changed his food to Kibbles and Bits. I'm not as concerned about nutrition as I am that he is just eating, period. His eating times are still random, but I think we've been able to slow down his weight loss.

Max still enjoys snuggles and licking, so we still have a decent quality of life going on. My gut is that we're looking at a 50/50 chance he'll be around to celebrate his full barkday. Whatever happens, Max has had a wonderful run and we've been blessed by his longevity. Please join us in wishing Max a happy half-barkday.

Happy half-barkday, Max! I hope you have a great day! 17 1/2 is a great and very respectable age for our senior dachsie-emeritus. (And wow - you're doing well - Miss Heidi made it to 14 years, 11 months, and a week, and that last couple of months, I was just thinking every extra day that she was okay and eating, was a bonus for my sweet angel!)

Oh, along with the Godfather award comes a royal declartion for eggs - one every Sunday until you are 18. We'll talk after that.

Heck, at your age you should be able to celebrate Quarter-Barkdays just because. We'll keep our paws crossed that you make it to the full day next spring.

Happy Day Max !!! We will take half barkdays any time !!!! Sounds like you are scoring with the Kibbles and Bits - the main thing is that you ARE eating and not losing weight - Good job !
