About a year ago, I joined a group called the Northern Virginia Dachshund Meet Up, but never went to any of their functions because Poldie, the social one, got cancer, and later died. Skeeter sticks to Kevin like glue at Bow Wows (although she did befriend Max C.), and Boone is timid and hides when new people visit, so I thought the Meet Up would only result in trauma for our remaining dachsies.
This past weekend there was a Meet Up right here in Manassas, so Kevin and I thought we would give it a try. If Boone didn't like it, home is only 10 minutes way, so why not?
We got there, and Boone was off the moment I set him down on lawn. He was greeting dachsies, he was going up to people for petting and cuddling. He was cuddled so much that he smelled like perfume after he got done hugging and charming all of the ladies! It was like he forgot all about Kevin and me!
We could sure tell we were with dachsie people. At one point I said, Boone is in trouble and went to get him. I came back with Boone and one woman asked what he had done. I explained he was digging in the flower bed, and another woman said, "So?"
There was one little dog who was working on her social skills and had to wear a muzzle. Every few minutes she would chase down a dog or group of dogs, but because of the muzzle couldn't bite them. When she tried it on Boone, being deaf, he just ignored her since he had no idea he was being chased. When he stood his ground, the other dog stopped dead in her tracks and had the most puzzled expression, as if she was saying, "don't you know you're supposed to run when I chase you?"
Skeeter spent the whole time stuck to Kevin like glue.
I have included a picture of Boone that was taken at the Meet Up. To see other meet up photos, go here:

Awwwww Boone - you are so handsome !!!! Good for you for coming out of your shell.....thats what the love of a good family will do !!!! I love that Skeeter is Kevin's velcro baby !!!!! LOL - at the story of Boone and the wild furchild - go Boonie !!!
Oh my goodness! Look at that SMILE on his face! That's sooooo great that he loved his meetup. I loved your whole story abut him.
What a great picture of Boone. I was thinking of the first pictures you posted of him and I'm sure there wasn't a smile like that on his face. He looks so happy and full of life! I'm glad the meetup was a huge success and you can look forward to many more.
That's great about Boone and his social skills.
I think Skeeter had befriended Rudy-angel if my memory serves me correctly. She even let him sit in Kevin's lap ! Max C. always seemed to always gravitate towards Poldie at the get-togethers.
Thanks for the nice comments about Boone.
Teresa, you are right--in early photos Boone looked sad. He usually has a happy expression now.
David, Skeeter did share Kevin's lap with Rudy. This was a big sacrifice for a little girl who doesn't ever want to share Daddy. On the whole, I think the C kids and our kids always got on well. We have some Bow Wow photos of Skeeter and Max in proximity. It was always our impression that Skeeter likes Max, he is calm and doesn't break rules, so he is her kind of guy. You seem to have more memories of Sketter and Rudy pairing up, and Max and Poldie pairing up. I'm quite sure that happened as well. I'm just happy all four got along.
