Title: Wez going on bacation
Post by: Marcia from MI on August 19, 2006, 06:37:01 AM
Eddie here:  I am really mad at my mommy - she's leaving on bacation next Saturday and will be gone for 5 days and we can't go.  Mom said we've got to stay wif Dr Cindy, but wez don't fink that is fair.

Marcia here: I'm meeting a couple of friends down in New Orleans next weekend and we are staying for the coverage of the Katrina Anniversary.   My friend had already made her reservations and we started to talk about meeting up down there and suddenly I said why not - I haven't had a real vacation in 20 years, so I made reservations last night.
Although we are coming from different parts of the country, my friend from Seattle, me from MI we managed to get rooms at the same hotel right on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter.    The boys will stay with Dr Cindy only because I feel that with Sam being a Senior and Eddie not wanting to leave his brother it would be the perfect solution.
That way if  anything happens they will be in good hands.

There is so much to do before next Saturday that I have to do a list/make phone calls/check out my clothes and find time to eat, sleep, etc.  I am going to take tons of pictures and video especially of my "friends" at CNN.   But now I've got to do something constructive like clean house.  Talk to you all when I get back.

Any suggestions for someone who hasn't flown in 20 years.

Sam here:  I don't want my mommy to go, but she says I'll have fun wif the kitties at Dr Cindy's.

Marcia - sounds perfect !!!   You deserve the treat of meeting up with your friends !!!!   Have a wonderful time - we will be anxious to hear when you get home !!!

Sam and Eddie - I know you will miss your mommy - but I bet she brings you all kinds of stuff - moms do that when they go out of town and the kids can't go.  You will have fun at Dr. Cindy's - bet they spoil you rotten !

Marcia - sorry I missed you in chat!  I know Sammy and Eddie will be fine at Dr. Cindy's and you will have a great time.  If you are in the mood for Italian food and are close to Jackson Square - there is a place called Irene's - yummy sauces!  Cafe du Monde is a must, and I wonder if the IMAX  and the Aquarium of the Americas is still there?  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy... and don't forget Emeril's or his NOLA cafe... the muffalettas, the jambalaya, the alligator dressing, anything with crawfish... ah, the memories!

Oh yeah, Cafe du Monde for sure. I was so surprised to see it survived Katrina last year when they were showing it during all the newscasts. Also, Paul Prudhomme (sp) has K Paul's kitchen which is awsome. The menu is written on the ceiling tiles! We also had breakfast at Brennan's which was awesome!

Yes, breakfast at Brennan's is totally decadent - but if you want to get by for less than $30 for breakfast, the Court of the Three Sisters is much less budget-breaking!  I wonder if they still feed marshmallows to the 'gators?  If you take a bayou tour, that is what they used to do!

You are right about the cost at Brennans! The day we went there it was the only meal we had! We were actually flying out later that day so we had brunch there that morning and then didn't eat another meal that day. It's one way to afford it! It was a wonderful experience, especially since it was spring the year we were there and the weather was wonderful. I can't believe it's been 12 years since we've been there. It seems like yesterday.
