she was due for vaccines and cheek up. The Vet said she needs a dental so we will be getting that taken care of soon. However she had a slight reaction to one of her shots it was splotchy and swollen and she wouldn't stop biting at it so I called the vet and they said to bring her back in. Now she is still there they wanted to keep her for observation and they gave her a benadyl shot I can pick her up at 5:30 CST at which time they said they will give her another Benadyl shot. I feel bad they offered to give a benadyl shot before her vaccine but she has done fine in the past so I said no and now my poor baby is having to be in a cage instead of home in my lap. :BangHead:
Oh no !!!! Rays to Hunny and rays to you too !!! She must have developed something since the last - or course you couldn't know until it happened.....now you will know going forward ! Glad she is close to them so they can watch her and treat her if needed. Only a few hours to go......
Poor Hunny! Is she having a reaction to the Lepto part of the DLPP shot? The benedryl should do the trick in getting rid of the swelling and itchies. Our vet doesn't do Lepto here and I'm fine with that because Dolly is very allergic to it. Rays to Hunny. It's no fun being in a cage but you'll be in Mom's lap soon enough. I hope you get an eggy and gravy when you get home.
I now get an antihistamine shot when they give the vaccine just in case. Hope hunny feels better soon

Poor baby, it sure seems a lot of doxies get this. I'm sure she'll be fine and REALLY glad to be home! Please let us know!
Roberta can a reaction to the vaccinations develop over time or if they are going to have it, they will always have it? Just wondering if an adult dog, who has never had a reaction, can eventually get one or if that means they won't. Hallie is on the 3 yr protocal and we just did it within this last year so won't have to worry for a while...but we do get bordetella (did that last week) and rabies which they don't react to like the lepto I suspect...
Hunny is home! keeping her at the vet was a good thing her reaction got worse even after the benadryl shot and that had to give her a Dexamethasone shot, which the Vet said is more potent then benadryl. She is also to take a children's chewable benadryl every 8 hours for the next 3 days. she will also get a Benadryl shot before her vaccines now and they want her to stay for observation every time now too. but she is home now and happy although not quit her perky self but hey I don't blame her!!
Oh yeah and when they took her blood work she didn't want to stop bleeding so they put a bandage on her. this pic show the bandage and her itching her injection site which I looked at after the pic we had just gotten home!

sorry just re-read that she is still doing fine! This was from the original trip to the vets.
Ooooh sweet baby girl! Breaks your heart when they are going through stuff like this doesn't it. I'm so glad she is doing OK though and that she is home. Do they know why she didn't want to stop bleeding? Do you do vaccinations for her every year or every three? At least now you know she needs the benedryl. Thank goodness you caught it quick and got her to where she needed to be. Me thinks she's going to be needing a LOT of eggies and special attention before she will forgive for this one LOL.
Yes she definitely needs eggies, plus lots of kisses.
Dee I think its the amount of illnesses the vaccine addresses, it used to be three then it went to 5 and now its 7. Oliver started to react when it hit the 5. He just was uncomfortable and would not settle. Plus what they raise the antibodies in for the vaccine in ie goat, sheep, chicken eggs so they may not be allergic to the vaccine but the host it was grown in.

Thanks Roberta. Man the things we put into them in the name of good health huh! We have left out lepto in her shots thinking that is the riskiest but I know that's not the only one to worry about.
How about keeping them in that nice big bubble idea, that is sounding good again LOL.
Glad baby girl is back home.......can they guess which one she had such a bad reaction to? Knock wood - I have never had any trouble with either of mine....but I guess you never know...I normally get their shots on a morning when I can watch them that day - and I will continue to do so !!! Glad Hunny was at the vet and they could give her something strong - poor baby - she had an ordeal, didn't she? Smoochies sweet girl !
eLlIe had a strange reaction to DHLPP this year. She was soooooooooooooo clingy , she wanted to be held and wrapped herself around my neck. She acted as if something (http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/alien004.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org) was after her. (http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/alien004.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org)
