Title: IS IT DIET TIME?
Post by: lillysmom on August 14, 2006, 01:24:50 PM
The last time we took Lilly to the vet, he said she weighed about 1 lb less than last time. I just dont see it! I had family over this weekend who hadnt seen her in over 6 months couldnt believe how ....... you know...... "chubby" she had become. Im afraid to pt her on diet. When I mentioned to my DH, he said when they weighed her, he was afraid maybe he didnt put her all the way down. She eats the Iams tiny bits for small dogs, but Im afraid the weight is coming from the treats. We give her those Tbonz steak flavored things. Prolly 2 or 3 a day. Could this be it, or should we be looking at cutting back on food/diet ?
Thanks!
Paula

Did the vet say she looked too chubby? How old is she? Can you see/feel her ribs? If there is a question at all it wouldn't hurt to take some off of her. I "try" to keep Hallie just a little on the too thin side if possible. If you do want to take some weight off, have you tried replacing a quarter of her food with no salt canned green beans? (don't add to...be sure to replace). Several on the board here have had good success with that. Also baby carrots are a good snack, and I make up carrot ice cubes...slightly steamed carrots, a little banana, green beans and a touch of canned food in the food processor, watered waaaay down with filtered water and made into ice cubes. Also daily walks will help a lot as well as keep their muscles fit. Hallie and I are not yet up to our full 30 minute walks again and I've noticed it's harder to keep her weight down.
