Title: Berman and Lucy meeting a new friend
Post by: Jenny G on August 11, 2006, 07:17:35 AM
I'd like Berman and Lucy to meet a friend of mine's Lab.  Berman and Lucy aren't the most sociable dogs, and if any of you remember, I had quite a time trying to get Berman to accept Lucy when we first got her.  I figured we could have them all meet on neutral territory (maybe a park?).  My question is should I have Berman and Lucy meet the Lab one at a time or at the same time.  I think I could probably handle them better one at a time, but I wasn't sure if they'd feel more comfortable if they were together.  Suggestions?

I am really not sure - maybe you could hold one and let one on the ground to sniff and meet and then change them out?  A neutral place is a definate yes and all on leashes too.  Let us know how it goes!

Most likely, having them together is going to make them braver and harder to handle as they will be feeding off each other. Do you know the lab well enough to know how he would react if your two were to act aggressively towards him?  Be sure the lab is friendly in any situation before letting them sniff noses or approach each other closely. As Barb said, neutral place and leashes are good. But I'd really suggest one doxie at a time until they are comfortable with the lab. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
