Title: Momma says I look downright pitiful!!!!
Post by: doxielady5569128 on July 28, 2006, 10:31:43 AM
Porky here:  Momma took some pictures of me yesterday afternoon.  I usually pose for the pictures but my tummy hurt too much to smile.  She says I look downright pitiful in them.  I still feel pretty icky and my energy is zapped, but the vet says I should back to my wild and woolly self tomorrow.  I can hardly wait to rip into the house again!!   I cant go on any walkies today cause its so hot.  And...the vet says stay in my kennel and rest today.  :cussing:  Restings for babies!!

Hi everybody.  Just wanted to share some pictures of Porky with you.  He had a hard night last night.  He was vomitting and shaking, and had hiccups all because of effects from the chemical.  I suspect he had a headache since he kept pawing at his head and whimpering.  I called the vet immediately last night. ( We have his home number)  and he said Porky needs kennel rest today and tonight so he can save energy and start feeling better.   My husband and I both are suffering with headaches and nausea just from handling the package to take it into the vet!!  We thought it was the flu but went to the doctor this morning and they tested our blood and found the chemical in our system from inhaling it!  Scary stuff.  Anyway...Here's the pictures!

Is there an angency that you can report this to?  This sounds like the kinda thing that should be--if it hasn't already--pulled from the shelves.  You have been poisoned with a neurotoxin!!!
Everyone take special care and note ANY weird symptoms. Please have your MD make a note of this product in your health files.

Personally, I would thoroughly clean the entire area that Porky found this package in.  Be sure to wear gloves and make sure the area is properly ventelated.  Don't use any chemicals, just wipe everything down with water to remove any concentrated residue.  I would guess there is a cedar smell in the area.  I would clean until I couldn't smell it any longer.
Keep us updated.

Leslie-  I'm not sure what agency I could report this to.  We have completely closed off the room where we found that product and contacted our landlord to come clean it up.  I am not sure they make this product anymore.  I saw some stuff on the internet about it and it looks like it is only made in China and India now.  Our landlord has also agreed to pay all our medical and vet bills related to this.  I thought that was very kind since he wasnt the one responsible for leaving it in our house.

My husband and I will be just fine after a few days, we are most worried about Porky.  He will have to have blood tests and have his liver, and kidneys monitored for up to a year. We also have to watch for seizures and other neurological effects in him.   He seems to be doing better Thank God!

I can't help feeling guilty over what happened since he never would have gotten into it had I not opened the pantry door!  We had no knowledge it was in the house though so I guess its good he found it and we got it out before we had recurring illness from it being in the air.  I am so happy we didn't have any children to get exposed to this horrible stuff!   I havent gotten much sleep the past few days because Porky had to be monitored for 72 hours after it happened.

Those pictures are heartbreaking. Poor little guy. But thank goodness you knew he ate this! I don't even want to think about if you had not noticed and gotten prompt attention. Very scary stuff! I'm glad you and your husband are going to be ok too I hate chemicals!

Poor Porky and poor you and hubby...... Is Porky taking liquids?  I would be worried about him becoming dehydrated.  If he is not, you might ask your vet about intravenous (sp?) fluids.  Sending rays to the whole family - please keep us posted.

Smoochies sweet Porky - rest easy.

Goodness! How scary for the whole family.  Poor Porky looks absolutely miserable! What was it again that he got into - moth bars or something?

I hate to even think what would have happened to Porky had I not known he had gotten ahold of that!  He would have had two hours at best!  I am also thankful that there was very little (if any) of that bar left in the package!

Porky has been getting fluids.  Yesterday he drank so much he had to go outside every half hour!   Today, he has not been drinking much, so I have been putting water in a medicine syringe and squirting it into his mouth slowly so I can make sure he is getting enough.  I want to avoid the iv thing if we can.

I shared our story with the ASPCA and some local news agencies in hopes that it will save the lives of other animals and humans who get exposed to this.  Even with an empty package...this product can still cause some major health problems.  If you have any other suggestions who I should contact to make sure people know about it, let me know.  Thanks!!

This has been the scariest thing for us!!  I have been on the computer trying to find all the information I can since quite honestly, not many people could really tell us what would happen or what we should do!

You might try adding water from NO SALT ADDED green beans to his water dish.  Clifford LOVES green beans and has been coaxed into drinking with this trick.

Rays coming for you all.

All,

I don't remember where I saw the article, but a few days ago, I read one regarding two sisters who had been hospitalized.  They were hospitalized for the effects of sniffing mothballs.  I wish I could remember where I saw the article, but I don't.  Regardless, this stuff isn't just fatal for our four legged kids.

Sending lots of rays to your family.  Poor Porky and what a traumatizing experience for you.  I hope that you and your husband are feeling better too.  You shouldn't feel guilty about opening the pantry door....you didn't put it in there and you didn't know it was in there.  Also who would think that Porky would eat it?  They use that crap(!) (Sorry for the language) as a dog and cat deterrent that you can sprinkle in your yard, etc.  Who would ever buy something like that??
Everyone, GET WELL SOON!   :xfinger:
