Title: Do your Dachsies Talk/Bark/Squeek a lot?
Post by: lotsodachs on July 23, 2006, 04:02:57 PM
Modem and Molly (well especially Molly) will speak a lot when they want something. Bark I want food, squeek I want to go bye bye, Bark I need outside, Squeek I want in bed with you....do your dachsies do this too? I will let you know Molly talks more than 10 dachsies need to. The only time she is quiet is when she is sleeping and even then sometimes she isn't quiet.

My 2 bark when the door bell rings or when they hear a strange noise outside or inside. My long haired one-Manny seems to know when my Moms jeep pulls into the driveway, and then he's barking his foolish head off until we open the door.He also gets his brother Blusky barking as well.
They also bark when I have them outside to do their jobs if they happen to hear another dog in the neighborhood barking;and sometimes it's in the morning when they do that.

Hi Molly, dis is Maddie aka Madderoo.  I LOVES to squeek!  And I shrill bark too, 'speshully when papa sings.  Maybe we can get together and squeek in harmony.  I squeek very high pitch.

Sandi here.  Boy howdy, does she ever!  I've NEVER had a dachsie that talks as much as the Roo.  They get their 2nd feeding at 5:00.  Maddie starts in the squeeking at 4:00 if we're home.  She will put up a total squeekfest if she doesn't get walkies when she wants.  She's VERY vocal.  Dolly is the strong silent type.  While she does have the bark of a Rottie, she doesn't DEMAND attention like her sissy.  Two opposite personalities, my girls, but I love 'em so much.

LOL interesting topic. Hallie is very quiet. She has a very soft what I call her "monkey noises" where she will quietly go "Oooh oooh ooooooh" when she needs to go out. She will bark at the usual things out the window (dog...company) but she always stops quickly. She does bark at me when I make her meals....but only when I pour on the fish oil because then she knows I'm about done and am going to give it to her. She also spins her way to the feeder.

Sgt barks some, but Libby is our noise maker. She barks at everything and then she talks to us when she wants attention.  Eric swears she says momma when she is trying to get my attention.

Chilie barks when she wants to play.  She will also bark when she wants down off the bed/couch, or if she's in a different room and wants to be brought in with the rest of us (again, she's on a bed/couch/different level).  Whenever this happens, I look at my husband and say, "Her Highness is calling." :2funny:

Chilie never barks when she needs to go outside, unless it's really URGENT.  Usually, I get this desperate look like, "Mommy, I really have to go!"

When she's being loved on, she makes what I call her "happy noises".  They sound like what Dee Dee described as monkey noises.

Hey Chilie, dis is Dolly!  Guess what?  I make "happy noises" too!  Mommy and papa say I sound like a little piggy grunting.  Happy noises mean I'm getting lots of loves, rubs and zerberts.

Toby is a barker.... and a talker....and a howler when he REALLY gets going.
Oscy is a squeeker and a talker and a barker when there is something he feels is worth barking at.
Buelah makes the little whimpery noise when she wants attention.  She seldom barks or makes any noise other than the little whine.

Of my two, Ilsa is the more vocal. She "bark, 'bark, barks" when their dinner is being made, when we get home and they've been alone (which is hard to do with a toy in her mouth - she always has to bring us a toy when she's been left alone), and when she's at field trials. Oh, let the screaming begin if she's hot on the trail of a bunny at a field trial! This is all in addition to the usual stuff - door bells, etc. She also moans when she's sleeping and changes position. And when she's making her bed, she's got her nose to the pillow/blanket, scratches as fast as she can with her front paws and does this "urrrrr, urrrrr, urrrr" sound. Then she goes somewhere else to lay down. Go figure!

Gretchen only barks at the usual stuff. Unlike Ilsa, she's a quiet hunter at field trials. I just noticed last night that she THOUGHT she heard the garage door go up when Ron got home, but wasn't sure. She put her head back down, not noticing Ilsa had run to the door. When she started barking, Gretchie sprang up and ran to the door also. It was sad. My baby girl is only 7 years old and she's getting gray and now her hearing is starting to go!!

Guess Patches is normal then after reading about all the barking, sqyeaking,& monkey noises. I thought she was strange if you give her a chicken rawhide she walks around with it in her mouth crying then usually hides it somewhere? Asked her the other night if she wanted to go to bed(it was past her bed time) she made little growling noises with a woo on the end of it. All of my Bouvier's talked but not till they got older the older they got the more they talked.Since Patches is only 7 mos old she should be quite the talker when older?
