Are they both back to themselves??????? Still on crate rest?
I have been wondering about Maddie too, hoping Sandi will check in!
Our update is GOOD. Hallie has her checkup this afternoon at 3:30. (Pee has already been collected). Hoping that anal sac is down some more, I can still barely feel it in there but I "think" it is smaller yet. She has been feeling great. Today is 4 weeks. I am going to be keeping her activities restricted for another 2 weeks or so but I have been letting her do a little more. I still have her on leash to potty and to go outside and no walkies yet, but most of the time she gets to walk around the house. There has been no sign of pain or anything since the evening this happened, and her episode then was mild. But I know how important it is to let them heal up and not let them run around too soon.
I've kept her as entertained as possible. Stroller ride walks, gone to some friends houses, shopping, etc. Every day I at least take her to the park or somewhere we can sit and watch things and smell the air. Her check up is today at 3:30 so we'll go shopping in her stroller afterwards and then to my step mothers for dinner and to watch a DVD, since she lives near the vet.
We are used to being on the go, and we both have been SO stir crazy this month. So this weekend I snuck her into the Arabian regional show to get pictures to paint from, (our first "outing") she has been to tons of them with me and I knew she wouldn't get excited. We just sat in the stands and she watched the horsies for a while while I took pictures then snoozed, even with all the cheering and feet stomping and loud music. We both slept really good that night.
So she's doing really well and feeling great, and kept as entertained as is safely possible. I never want to go through another month like this last one has been! Sheesh.
How about an update from you Terri, how is your back?
Great news dd and Hallie !!! Will be waiting for you to get home and post after her vet visit this afternoon.... I bet you are stir crazy !!! But the best thing for Hallie - rest and recoup and slowly get her active again. Keeping all fingers and paws crossed here that this NEVER happens again !!! Oh yea, and sending rays that her hiney is bump free !!!
Yes, Terri - how are you doing with the fracture?
Last report from Sandi was that the Maddaroo was back to herself - hope she continues that trend !
Sorry y'all. I had posted in the Rays section. Here's my update on the Roo.:
By golly, she's acting as if nothing was ever wrong. We are still escorting her up the back steps......if ya catch her in time. We haven't heard any yips of pain all week. I'm sooooo relieved.
That was about a week ago. Now she's beating us up the steps most of the time. She's feelin' GREAT!
Well, I'll be outta town for a few days. Goin' to Minnie Soda for my OTHER internet group gathering (a bunch of crazy women western writers). I fly out at the crack of dawn on Thursday.
Oh! That reminds me, Madderoo has a new nickname. Madderooster. That's cuz she gets us up every morning about 5:30. A god-awful hour, iff'n ya ask me.
Thanks for askin' about Miz Roo.
Dee Dee,
I sent you an e-mail about your activities in Washington State. Are you still planning on doing them? Modem and Molly might enjoy a day with Hallie if you are able to make it to or near our area.

It's so good to hear that they are both getting back to normal. Maddarooster! Gotta love it! I have to PUSH my three out of bed in the morning.
The back is as well as can be expected. It doesn't hurt nearly as much and really, there is very little that can be done. I just started a new medication called Boniva. It's a once a month treatment and not nearly as hard on the stomach as Fosomax which I had been taking. Thanks so much for asking!
Madderooster! I love it. No wonder you are such a good writer, you have a way with words! Have a great trip Sandi I know you will love it. And thank goodness Maddie is doing great! Phew!
I was about to email you back Kunk, I doubt I will be competing with Hallie anymore after this bout with her back, right now I don't plan to let her out of hte house!! :) But I'm sure I will get braver as time goes on so I might be in your neck of the woods one of these days! I'll certainly let you know if I am, I would love to see Molly and Modem.
Terri I couldn't tolerate Fosamax either, so I've been on Boniva for several months. No problems at all yet!! I think my yearly check up is in February so we'll see if it's working but I'm really happy that there have been no side effects with the Boniva. Amazing they can charge so much for one little pill though isn't it! Glad you are feeling better!
Its so good to hear that Hallie and Maddie are healing up! Continued caution is a must! And Terri, you take it easy, too, those backs take time to heal, as all doxies know! My dad had knee surgery and is going absolutely stir crazy. He has graduated to a cane, but it will still be a good 4-6 weeks before he and my mom can fly up to Alaska. Right now they are home in h*ll, oh I mean, Yuma, AZ...........beautiful, desert town, I love it down there, but too d@mn hot. We Alaskans melt at 80, and they are pushing 116 down there.
Dee Dee,
I agree with you that agility is out for Hallie, but being a show dog in the show ring does not require jumping at all. I was wondering if you would pursue a champion title with Hallie after all she is a pretty lil dachsie girl. If not it isn't a real loss, just thought it might be something both of you might be interested in.
Also as far as visiting us is concerned, it does not require the dachsies being bouncy. Matter of fact Molly being 10 and Modem being 12 they are slowing down quite a bit, and both of our girls have suffered mild back pains so I try to keep their activity to a reasonable amount. Please concider what I am saying Dee Dee, Hallie may have been hurt but she certainly isn't crippled, she does need to have some activity to live a happy life.

Those are good points Kunk. I had Hallie entered in the breed ring for the first time (under NCA) the weekend after her "episode". I may get brave enough to do that again once her 6-8 weeks is up and we build back up to our daily walks. I would love to get her CD in obedience but she is such a perky little heeler, she prances staring straight up at me, popping her little front feet out in front of her (adorable!) and she does her recalls SO fast (also adorable) and does her "happy spins" on each right turn (again...adorable) but that all scares me now. We'll take one day at a time, I am feeling more confident with her already so we'll see! I just want to wrap her in a few layers of bubble wrap and fill it with helium! :) You are right, she does love to show I do plan next week to take her back to class for the first time, (handling class) we probably won't do much but she will like being there. I'm sure Modem and Molly and Hallie would get along GREAT I hope we get the chance to do that!
Terri I forgot to mention that I am taking Evista along with the Boniva. The Dr and what Ive found on the internet all say it is safe...although I do wonder why more people don't take both then.
Hallie's vet appointment went really well today!! Her anal sac swelling is down to the size of a small hard pea!! (yeay!!!!) That is great news. She had her last antibiotic tonight and isn't even scheduled to go back for another check. Also her urine was perfect this time (it was dilute last time...she does drink a lot and that has always concerned me but the vet today said it's not excessive and nothing is wrong with her). I showed him a new little bump on her foot...he is not concerned and said "watch it and don't stress about it."
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, after all we've been through this month, I really am not stressing about it. Much.
She feels great, I'm very happy!
We went shopping at Target afterwards, she loves riding in the cart (on her blankets hooked to the back of the cart with her harness...she never attempts to get out or anything though she just lays there and quietly watches no one ever notices there is a dog in there). I ask her opinion when picking out purses or clothes. Then we went to "grandmas" and watched Narnia. So she's a very happy and tired girl tonight.

Dee Dee,
Great news to hear that her anal sac is down even more, be careful and watch her carefully if it starts swelling again at all get her back on antibiotics. From what I have heard so far though we have Hallie girl back 100%, now you need to recover from your stress. Once that happens both of you will be a lot more happy.
