Since being diagnosed in February of this year, I just wanted to let everyone know what has been going on. So far, I've lost 22 pounds. My blood sugars have gone way down, and my doctor is extremely pleased with what I have done with only diet and exercise (no meds).
I'm going in for blood tests next Monday, to see what my long-term blood-sugar control is, and to check my cholesterol.
I've been sticking to my diet, and go to water-aerobics three times a week. I also try (not doing too well here), to lift weights, but that is really not my favorite thing to do. I also walk at least 2 miles a day during the week.
I had a fitness assessment when I first joined the gym I currently belong to. The only things that needed improvement were body fat and flexibility. Overall my physiological age, at that time, was 32 (I'm in my 40s). I'm going to have a nother assessment shortly, just to see what my current physiological age is - I'd be thrilled to be in my 40s, yet have a physiological age in the 20's.
I love the fact that I have go to buy some new clothes and Roger can't complain about it!!!!
Still, normal people crave sweets, I dream of mashed potatoes and pasta!!!!
Congrats to you !!!! Thats great you could control it without meds - keeping fingers and paws crossed here that you get a good blood reading !
If you are really wanting pasta try the whole wheat pastas. They have a higher fiber content and tend to not affect the blood sugar the same way. (the sugar levels stay more level rather than jumping and dropping.) Whole grains also help lower cholesterol! :)
It's great that you've been able to control your diabetes with diet and excercise! That's certainly better than having to take drugs every day!
