Since Molly has been home from the vet, he has had her on the i/d canned food so her intestines wouldn't have to work too hard for a few days.
Schatzi usually wants NOTHING to do with canned food. That is, until MOLLY has canned food. Suddenly it is Schatzi's favorite thing. I had some Solid Gold food that I had gotten when I was trying Schatzi on it (and she hated it), so I decided to let her have it while Molly had hers. Of course Schatzi is gobbling it up now.
It is so funny how they think they just have to have what the other is having. Now Schatzi goes to the counter where I have Molly's food and begs, whether it is feeding time or not. I guess she wants me to know that she thinks Molly may be hungry and she doesn't want her to starve or anything. She's being such a good little sister, huh?
Molly is doing better and showing a little more spunk. Not too much, but at least she has grabbed a toy once or twice and wrestled a few minutes. It will just take time for her to rebuild the red blood cells she lost. She is enjoying the pampering and may decide she should never let on that she feels completely well!
Teresa did they ever determine just what the problem was with Molly?
Have to laugh at Schatzi though! If there is ever a way to fenagle food, a doxie will find it. Better yet if you can do it under the guise of helping out your sister. :) Hallie says that just isn't possible that a doxie does not like canned food...or food of any kind! She'd eat the whole can including...the can! I'm so glad Molly is home and I hope she will recover fast and 100%. Hope your stress level is down too!
The final determination was that Molly got a hold of something that perforated her intestine, causing internal bleeding and infection. We're still not sure exactly what it was, but there was no evidence of anything left on xray. Randy told our vet that generally it was Schatzi that would get ahold of anything and everything and not Molly. Dr. Creel said the he had done surgery on doxies many time that had eaten whole pecans, in the shells, and then they had lodged in the intestines. He also said that doxies are one dog that WILL eat just about anything.
Molly goes back on Tuesday for a recheck and I hope everything is fine then. She is still on Keflex and Flagyl and eating the special food. Today she was really wanting what Randy had for lunch so that is a good sign.
One thing that was really odd and I can't believe that Randy and I missed. Because of the anemia, the membranes in Molly's mouth had gotten extremely pale. Because her mouth is sooooo fleshy it was really easy to see, but neither Randy nor I noticed. I guess its a matter of not seeing it because you're not really looking for it. However, after Randy was showing me this on Wednesday I suddenly remembered seeing Molly yawn on Sunday and something making me think it was weird, but not being sure what it was. All of a sudden I knew it was because of the paleness of the tissue. I mean, it was like her teeth and gums were close to the same color. Now the teeth and gums aren't anymore, but the other isn't quite back to normal yet. I'm just glad we didn't lose her and that Dr. Creel said that for a seven year old bulldog she was in really good shape!
Tell Hallie I plan to send her a puzzle like the ones I put in the treat box later this week. Maybe it will keep her mind busy for a few days!
So glad that Molly is doing so much better. It is so cute that Schatzi wants to be like her sissie and eat the soft stuff !!! It is so scary when we can't pinpoint what is wrong - glad they figured it out and she is on the mend!!!! Smoochies to Molly and to her personal nurse and companion Schatzi !!!!
