Mind if I freak out a little here? Maddie, as of yesterday, is walking like she's very stiff. I can't quite determine where she hurts but she cries when we try to pet her or try to pick her up. She's peed and pooped fine and doesn't seem wobbly in the legs. I suspect that she has tried to jump on the couch and missed, running her head into it OR she's done the "skip a step" thing she does. She runs up the steps to the back door and skips the last step. I have NO idea why she does this and sometimes she misses her mark and runs into the step with her chest. I'm not thrilled with our present Vet and am taking her to a new one that has a great reputation. I had some Rymadol from another visit and gave her 1/2 a tablet last night. She slept good but did cry out shrilly once in the night. Sent me 2 feet off the bed. Appt is at 11:00 PDT. I'll let you know what they find. Boy howdy, it's never a good time for something like this, but right now we are flat broke. Asking for RAYS that my Madderoo is gonna be okay. I'm holding my paycheck right now. I'm sure the whole thing is as good as spent.
I'm so sorry to hear this Sandi! Let us know how she is doing as soon as you know anything! Rays and prayers for Madderoo headed your way! Hang in there....this has got to be horrible for you!
OMG sorry to hear our lil madderoo is not doing well, I feel for you. sending rays.
Major rays coming your way - I hope everything is fine with Madderoo
Poor Maddie! The Room of Doom is not where any dog (except Siglen-Angel!) wants to be! We are hoping to hear soon how Miss Maddie is... :bandaid:
We're back and, thank goodness, the news is so far, so good. This new vet....I LIKE HER LOTS.....found no back issues, yet. She found no neurological issues and is guessing, without the benefit of x-ray, that it's just a little sprain or muscle pull. Maddie was very good with her and didn't yelp once. Doc prescribed strict crate rest for 3-4 days with Rymadol.....which I have at home already. I was soooo impressed to get out of there for less than $50.00. My old vet would have insisted on x-rays, blood tests, you name it and it would have been a pretty penny. This Vet seemed genuinely interested in Maddie and she told us that she had a little boy dachsie at home. THAT'S a GOOD SIGN for a Vet, IMHO.
So I want to thank you all for the rays. A tempest in a teapot for sure but you know how us mommy's get. Thank you Terri for your personal message. It's so nice to know that my friends CARE.
I am so glad to hear that Maddie is ok. Hopefully with a little crate rest, she is back to her old self in no time!
That is a relief ! Sending rays and prayers for our Madaroo AND her mommy ! It is so scary when all of a sudden they are just not themselves. How cool that the vet had a doxie at home - that is perfect ! Please keep us posted on how she is doing ! Hang in there mom !
:comfort: So glad to hear that the news was good, on all fronts! Give the Maddaroo belly rubs from her Auntie Nikki.
I happy to hear your good news. The vet I go to now (still the same clinic) had a lady dachshie for 16 years until she lost her 2 years ago. Now I always make sure we get her for our checkups.
Hope Miss Madderoo is right as rain in a few days time! Rudy sends his girl some special healing kissies! :comfort:

Sending Madderoo lots of rays! Sounds like a soft tissue injury. They are scary because they so closely mimic more serious issues. Rudy used to get them all the time. Max had one soft tissue injury that scared me. That was over 13 years ago, though.
Maddie! What a scare...I'm glad you found a good vet and it turned out cheaper than you thought! How is she doing today?
Update on the Roo. She's doing surprisingly well in the crate. She whines a little but is fairly content. Of course she is on a painkiller, so I think it makes her pretty much not care where she is. When we're home and I'm in the kitchen, we face the crate in the kitchen. When we have supper, it faces the table. When we're on the couch, she is permitted on our laps but the Doc says, we must have her leashed and hang on to it in a short rein so that she doesn't suddenly want to jump for the unseen critters/monsters that patrol the carpet or "attack" the person who has just rang the doorbell. She sure isn't the little doggy that used to run 100 miles per hour up the hallway but hopefully in a few days, she'll be feeling more like herself.
Thanks for all your well wishes.
And let's not forget Dolly. She is getting LOTS of loves and rather enjoys it that when we pet her, Maddie isn't butting in to say "ME! ME! ME!" It's funny though. Many times, Dolly will be lying right next to the crate as if to say, "Dat's my sissy in there."
Glad to hear that Maddie is on the mend. We're so conditioned to fear the worst when our little ones are feelin' poorly. Glad you found a dachs friendly vet!
