Title: Lost a great father-in-law
Post by: PattyInAK on June 19, 2006, 10:13:27 AM
Dan's father passed away in his sleep Friday night.  We got the call Saturday morning.  Had our big Open House planned and couldn't very well call everyone and cancel.  Dan just asked me to not say anything to anyone, he didn't want everyone feeling all somber and sorry for him.  He did confide in some good friends later in the day, these people had just been through the same thing, and I think it helped Dan to talk about it.  Dan will be heading to CA in a day or so.

Willy, Alex and Misty loved their "grandpa."  He would visit us every year from CA.  When Dan would bring his dad home from the airport, the three dogs would be all wags and absolutely no barking.  I couldn't believe it, they bark at everyone, even people they see everyday.  This happened year after year, they would not bark at Dan's father.  And they'd stay glued to him his entire stay.  He was a special man and my three dogs saw that in him.

We are thankful Dan's father went peacefully and didn't have a long, drawn out demise at the nursing home.  He still knew everyone and was qute mobile in his wheelchair and enjoyed all his friends at the assisted living place.  The ladies there called him a "Prince of Men."  Apparently he was a real flirt.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news Patty.  Please know that your family is in my prayers during this difficult time.  A Prince Of Men.  What a fine tribute.

I am so sorry.  My condolences to you and Dan - and the furkids!   I know he will be missed, but savor those special memories.  It is good that he still knew everyone - that is a special thing, too!
