Title: Rays and prayers desperately needed for my dying Father at home in the UK
Post by: Spanish Teckels on June 15, 2006, 07:14:23 AM
we´ve just come back to Spain for a couple of days to sort work and go back to the UK again almost immediately.  My Father was 82 on 7th June and broke a three vertebrae in his spine a week before his birthday.  He´s in a special spinal acute care unit in a hospital way away from our family home and Mum is travelling every day to spend 10 hours or so at his bedside comforting him.  Miguel & I have been covering the other 14 hours till now.
There are many complications and both his heart and lungs and kidneys have almost given up on him.  The harrowing thing is he´s still 100% lucid and suffering terribly, the pain has finaly been "controlled" as of yesterday, but he´s horribly uncomfortable nonetheless and can´t even swallow any more.

We´re bracing ourselves for the inevitable deep and unstoppable void his passing will leave and would dearly appreciate any rays and prayers you have to spare to ease the passing for this gentle man who has been the best father and father-in-law in the world and was responsible for the family addiction to dachsies (teckels) too.

I never thought I´d be praying for my own Father´s death, but his agony is so great and there is no other peace available to him.  We´re so terribly distraught.

Thanks to you all.

Andrea & Miguel

Andrea - my heart is breaking for you.  Sending prayers and rays that your dad finds peace, in whatever form.   We are here for you and Miguel.  Many here have suffered the loss of our parents and it is so hard.  Hugs to you both - please take care of yourselves and your mom.

Andrea,  There are no words that can make this easier for you.  As Barb said, many of us have been through this loss and although we cannot know exactly what YOU feel, we can certainly sympathise.
You and your family will be in my prayers.  Take care.

Sending rays and prayers, too!  Our fathers (and my godson) share the June 7 birthday, and my father also suffered a lot of pain a couple of years ago.  I hope you are able to stay grounded, since  I know Red and Islay will give you a lot of comforting!  (Grounded in the sense of having some quiet and calm moments!)

Prayers for you and your family.  My father has terminal cancer and we lose him a little more each day.  The one thing I am thankful for is that he is not in a great deal of pain, unlike your father.  I pray for a release from his pain and comfort for you and your family in this very difficult time.

Bless you all for your prayers and thoughts, they mean so much to us all here and in the UK.  We´re back here for two days then back to the UK again till the end, whenever that may be.

It is absolutely heartrending to see my Father like this, so weak and desperate to leave this world.  Somehow he is hanging onto life by the skin of his teeth - he has always had tremendous strength of character - yet begs to be left to die when he is awake.  He´s still in agony despite the morphine and everything else tey´re giving him and said to me "Andy, if I was one of the teckels, you´d put me to sleep, do something for me, please....".  All I can do is hold his hand and be there, it´s so hard.

We´re praying he is released from his ordeal soon and can find the peace he deserves.  Thank every one of you for keeping us all in your thoughts.

Red & Islay are back with us for these two days then will stay again with good friends of ours here, they´re in great shape but know we´re not!  If our new car is confirmed to arrive in the next few days we will cancel flights and drive to Scotland instead, so Islay and Red will be with us.  My Mum could do with their cuddles too.

I know this is so hard.  I wonder sometimes at the ability we have to send our pets on to a better place and not our human loved ones.  You are in my prayers and your dad too so that he can find his peace.  I am sending doxie rays that your car comes in, so the puppers can go with you - they will bring comfort to all.  Please keep us posted as you can and know that we are all here for you.

How hard this must be for all of you right now. To see someone you love in so much pain is almost unbearable, yet you are being so strong for him. Just remember that he knows you are there and how much you love him.
I, too, hope the car arrives and the doxies can go with you. Doxie love can go a long way to comforting human souls. You will all be in my prayers in the next days and weeks.

I am so sorry that you have to go through such a difficult time.  It is the hardest thing in the world to watch someone you love be in pain and not be able to do anything about it.  I'm sure that you just being there by your dad's side is very comforting to him.  I hope that you are able to take Red and Islay with you; they will provide comfort to your dad as well as your mom.  You are most definitely in my thoughts and prayers.
